I could write down the chapter in the service manual for you and soon you would be lost, or, you could go to YouTube and search "Burgman 650 Transmission Oil Change" and see how the pros do it. I reccomend adding it to your favorites list as it is not done very often and a refresher is good for the second time you do it. Change the oil and filter plus the rear drive oil while you have the covers off.

MTD 618-04907A Transmission stuck in reverse

Here are a few things you can check to troubleshoot why your TroyBilt riding mower is stuck in reverse:
  1. Check the transmission fluid level. The transmission fluid level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick. If the fluid level is low, add the specified type and amount of fluid.
  2. Check the transmission fluid for leaks. If the transmission fluid is leaking, it could be causing the transmission to slip. Repair any leaks and refill the transmission fluid.
  3. Inspect the transmission linkage. The transmission linkage is a series of cables and rods that connect the transmission lever to the transmission. If the linkage is damaged or misadjusted, it could be causing the transmission to stick in reverse. Inspect the linkage for damage and make sure it is properly adjusted.
  4. Inspect the transmission gears. The transmission gears are responsible for transferring power from the engine to the wheels. If the transmission gears are damaged, it could cause the transmission to stick in reverse. Inspect the transmission gears for damage and replace any damaged gears.
If you have checked all of these things and the mower is still stuck in reverse, you may need to take it to a qualified mechanic for further diagnosis and repair.
Here are some additional tips for troubleshooting transmission problems:
  • When diagnosing a transmission problem, it is important to check the fluid level and for leaks first. Low fluid levels or leaks can cause the transmission to slip, which can lead to other problems.
  • If the fluid level and for leaks are okay, then you can start inspecting the transmission linkage and gears. The linkage should be properly adjusted and the gears should not be damaged.
  • If you find that the linkage or gears are damaged, then you will need to replace them. You can also try adjusting the linkage if it is not properly adjusted.
  • If you have checked all of the above and the mower is still stuck in reverse, then you may need to take it to a qualified mechanic for further diagnosis and repair.

I need to know how to check and add transmission fluid

Hi ,
Check your owners manual, if your not dropping fluid ,,, leave it alone . If you are down fluid it usually shows as a rough gear change/slap. The fluid is checked at normal engine running temp and while enging is running (check dip stick for A/T) not engine. Good Luck

Car makes a loud noise and jerks when I try to put it in a gear.

we might need to know if this is the car's 1st transmission and how many miles are on it --- but tansmissions that make noise and **** when put into gear are transmissions that are low on transmission fluid or have burnt (old) fluid - check your transmission fluid level using the transmission fluid dipstick (its location should be in the car's owners' manual).
If fluid looks dark (significantly darker than new fluid from the bottle), then drain &fill tranny.
If fluid is just low, fill tranny and monitor level for continued leakage.
A word of caution: keep on top of the tranny's fluid level - running on a dry transmission is a really good way to put a 94 Cutlass into the junkyard before its time.

Transmission only drives 35 miles per hour, stays in second gear.

I would say it is the shift solenoid, but we must know which applys, please let me know.

How do i check transmissiom fluid 2006 jetta

Hi there,

Jetta's 2006 carry sealed gear box. There is no dip stick to check the transmission fluid. Per manufacturer, transmission fluid requires to change unless there is any issue with transmission. I hope this helps.

Automatic transmission won't shift into drive

Check automatic transmission fluid using dipstick, if fluid is low the automatic g/box tend not to shift properly. If the fluid level is fine you probably have an internal gearbox problem or a sensor problem (see a mechanic).

4x4 whining noise

First, Check the transmission fluid level. Add more if it is low! If the noise continues, change your transmission fluid and assure that your transmission fluid level is correct. When changing transmission fluid you must drop the pan on the bottom of the transmission(You will know it immediately upon climing under transmission) it usually has10-15 small bolts holding it in. CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION FILTER WHEN CHANGING THE FLUID! If this doesn't quiet or fix the problem, then it sounds like your synchronizers or the bands in your transmission are worn(Thus the reason the whine goes away when it hits second gear) but check the cheaper of the two problems first. The synchronizers or bands are unfortunately a repair shop problem. I ran one of my vehicles for about 25,000 miles before having it serviced but I can't guarantee you the same amount of luck. Good Luck

1987 Honda Accord

Correct! the term box (by pauldonp) was used instead transmission. I agree with given solution. It is important to maintain hydraulic fluid level between marks, when engine is at operating temperature and lever at position "P".
If there are fluid leaks must be repaired.
