Have a chatter in engine not rods or maines

hot or cold engine or both, is not stated and very very important.
1.6L is a G16B 16valve engine.
  1. find a a mech that can do this.
  2. did you drop all belts first? run cold cold for 2 min, gone now?
  3. use stethoscope to the front timing belt cover, is this it?
  4. forget the 60k mile new timing belt , BINGO.?
  5. Forget the 60k valve last check and the stethoscope shows, noise on top valve cover. harbor freight sells it for $5
  6. is oil pressure at spec, using a real gauge?
  7. is the front crank pulley bolt (17mm head) at 94/100 ft/lbs,. BINGO?
  8. is the exhaust collector donut gasket bad? (common) sounds just like bad rods too. so while making noise , use a lever and bend the header pipe,(below collector at CAT, lever it, does noise stop.?? BINGO !
  9. is the intake pipe on top of engine, not with huge bolts hold it to the exh top rear header tight, many are loose. fix that now.
  10. once you prove all this is good, then bad engine.? by process of elimiation. works.

Loud chatter on start and rattle from timing chain area

The timing chain area also takes in the alternator and water pump. To isolate the source of the noise, use the old mechanics trick.

Place a 3 foot 1/4 inch brass rod against the flap at the opening of your ear and push until it closes. Place the other end of the rod against various engine components and listen. The noisy problem will conduct the noise up the rod to your ear and you can hear quite precisely where the problem is. Much safer than laying your ear all over a running engine.

You can also loosen the fan belt and run the engine without alternator or water pump (briefly) to see how that affects the problem. Chatter on start makes me think of starter and Bendix gear problems. Sounds like a 2 person diagnostic team to me; one to start the car and one to listen and probe.

Don't know if Subaru Forrester has an engine that has valve interference at piston Top Dead Center. If it is and the timing chain breaks, you are looking at major $$ to recover.

Clattering. is it valves or rockers and how do i eliminate it? does it mainly when i first start it. 75k miles on the car. i was told the rockers should be tightened. is this true, and how do i go about...

use an engine flush when changing oil/filter use only 10/40 semi synthetic oil(change every 10k)top end chatter occurs when engine is cold/oil not up to followers, but should stop about 30 secs after starting engine.there ARE NO adjustments AT ALL.if chattering persists, then top end rebuild req.
the person who told you about "rockers"should learn about self adjusting valve followers....

Asko Dryer T711 relay chattering near the end of a cycle I

relays only have a specified life of x amount of switches x depending on the style and manufacturer, so there is a good chance it will fail eventually, if you know someone technically minded you could get them to change the relay which would be cheaper than the board its fitted too, as its at the end of the cycle i would guess it controls the heater as it cools down near the end to stop you buring yourself on the drum.

Dryer does not start

I just fixed my 110.73932102 model dryer, and have done about a week of web research on that problem. I got a electronic control board from AppliancePartsSolutions.com for about $60 delivered-took about 4 days. Use flat screwdriver to pop off plastic ends of top console. Under plastic ends, find one screw (phillips) on each end-remove. Then, slide console forward 1/2 inch and it should open back to expose innards. Note-follow static elec. charge abatement procedures around all electronics! Part snaps out and in after disconnecting wiring. 20 minutes, tops and you're running again. Less than the service call! Good luck.
