I removed the tail light from an 84 Honda shadow vt500 and now I am trying to wire it back up, problem is can't remember how it was wired and the wires aren't long enough and are just hanging down underneath the rear fender

Your clutch plates have lasted 25 years. It is probably time to get some new plates. Have your dealer get you a set of Barnett clutch plates.

if the tail light is working, then look at the sensor, it is placed under the seat( it is a small black box 2x1,5cm) disconnect and clean contacts. Also put some contact spray in other wire joints.
