Question about 1979 Yamaha XS 500

1985 VIRAGO 500 It sputters. The front plug was black. I had the carbs cleaned. It ran fine for 30 minutes then sputtered again. Now the back plug is black and the front is fine. Was wrong with it?

Try new spark plug caps. They unscrew off the end of the wires. With a voltage meter they should measure 5000 OHMs , anything higher or lower and you replace them. NGK plugs are about $5 each.

sounds like you may have a bad coil. you getting gas but no spark if its sputtering can cutting out or it may just need re gapped

Chances are there is a water build up in the carb float bowls. The water comes from condensation in the gas tank. Try draining the carbs. Another possibility is carburetor main jets partially plugged up. You must clean the carbs if plugged jets are found to be the problem. Please rate my answer. Thanks. tombones49_152.gif

I had rust in tank after i cleaned tank out the bike is sputtering and back firing how do i clean carb
1. remove and plug the fuel line
2. remove the throttle slide
3. remove the carb from the back of the motor ( should be 10mm bolt )
4, have a full air compressor to blow air into the carb
5 remove the bottom of the carb ( star head bolts x3 ) make sure that all clean

When driving my kia it seems to stall but not cut out just momentarily ? and i have a light on dashboard look like a little tap .... slight noise from engine sounding a little like loose belt maybe

Engine runs but sputters after engaging blades
ck for water in carb bowl. also ck for filter in gas tank, or something in gas tank.

Choke Light rough idle
adjust your carb, the 2 screws on each side of the carb adjust so you can get the car to idle correctly, also check your distributor

XV1100 virago ...sputtering, dying...NOT FZR!!
1 maybe there is a diaghfram tear at your carb only 1 is funtioning and 1 block engine is running but under power
2.check your fuel line from tank to fuel filter then pump then carb
probally there is a debrie stuck in the pipe line or in your tank
