1979 Yamaha XT500. Why would gas be leaking from behind the flywheel please?

Question edited for clarity.

I have ridden an XT500 on Green Lanes in the UK. Great old thumper!

You will probably find there is a small overflow hose from the float bowl of the carburetor. The float valve is sticking. Remove the carb and clean all the jets, especially the one in the bottom float bowl.

My 1979 KZ650 SR coil not getting power?

If I remember it shouldn't have points, when you had the carbs off did you unplug any of the harness, I beleive coils 1-4 and 2-3 are powered by the same source. also there should be a pick-up coil it's down on the stator. As for the fuel issuedid you have a bad needle and seat or something holding it slightly open causing it to over fuel/ rev up.

1979 honda cbx 6 cylinder, no power at 1 coil. no

If you mean no output power, coil is bad. If you mean no input power 12v, there is a fault in the wiring. If you mean no signal from stator, wiring problem as well
