Yamaha Virago 535 Fuel Pump Dead

I'm sure the fuel pump is dead because when I turn the key on the pump does not cycle. My top speed is only 60 mph without the pump, though the bike seems to work just fine.

*My first question: is it ok to run the bike using only gravity fed fuel if I'm ok with a top end of only 60 mph, or am I damaging something else on the bike by doing that?

**My second question: is there a way around buying the $300+ fuel pump in order to get the bike running properly again?

***My third question: WHY DOES THE FUEL PUMP COST $300+!!?!?!??!

SOURCE: 1990 Yamaha Virago 535 Parts interchangeable with 2001 virago 250

Sure mirrors, nuts, bolts and screws. Maybe a fender and a bit of other stuff. But for the most part not much will match up and now you have this ugly monster in your garage and your next job is to figure out exactly how you are going to get rid of the da-- thing. Look a bit harder and get a match for your bike. Now you have something worthwhile.

1995 Yamaha Virago 535 will not turn over?

Check that the relays you have removed only operate the flashers and fuel pump. Neither of these should stop the engine from turning over.

Virago 535 lack of power!

Clean the jets out and try readusting them, if it has sit for a while gum can build up on the needle and seats so they need to be cleaned. also make sure you don't have a problem with fuel line fuel shut off valve make sure fuel is flowing to the carb and be sure air filter is clean. ake sure the carb is tight and the gasket does not have a hole in it or cracked. let me know if you need more help.
