Last year I had my oil pump replaced and gear driven cams installed. When I drive thru town slowly my bike heats up and oil pressure comes on and oil pressure gauge goes very low or completly down. What do I look at next. Taking a six day trip in a month

What is happening is the oil is thinning out from the heat, and although is still supplying lubrication, it is too thin to register much oil pressure on a gauge, if any at all. What are you using for oil? Weight and brand? I'd recommend Castrol 20w-50 dino oil if you want to see more pressure on the gauge. I have been through what you are experiencing, and this is what I found out. Harley oil was always disappointed in the pressure department, but there were no worries because, the Harley engines were low pressure, high volume designs at the time, now they are high volume and high pressure, at least until the oils heats up and thins out, the pressure will drop, but the volume will stay where it should, insuring proper lubrication. I would listen for the lifters and valves to be clacking and clicking, if they are not, I would not worry. I could go on forever but I hope I have conveyed that you are probably OK. I would change the oil more often in the hot weather, especially if you do a lot of miles in the heat.

NO OIL PRESSURE LIGHT GO OF BUT NO RESPONSE ON MY GAUGE , FITTED NEW OIL PUMP AND FILTER BUT STILL SAME TAPPET NOISE

What motor? If a SBC you can't just press on the oil pump pick up, you need to have it welded on or they come loose and fall off.
Some pumps need to be primed, I would put mine into pan of clean oil and turn pump until it started sucking up the oil before installing.
If it is a 3800 Buick you need to pack gears with vasoline, so different motors require different steps in order for oil pump to function after replacing it. There is also chance filter is bad, or relief valve is bad, more info would help us help you.

Did an engine flush on the car and it is still acting like it is not getting any oil to the top of the block, oil pump going and if so how hard to replace it?

It's directly driven by the crankshaft, in front of the engine block, behind the camshaft timing chain cover and timing chain gear, on the crankshaft. It contains the pressure bypass valve, too. Here's a basic diagram of the 4.6 oiling system:

http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/167729/fullsize/oil-flow.jpg

Maybe the pump inlet screen is clogged with junk? You would have to remove the oil pan to look at that. These engines (when older) will sometimes exhibit low oil pressure if the oil level is even just a quart or so too low.

Cheapo oil filters sometimes lack an anti-backflow valve that the 4.6 must have. Lack of this valve will cause no lubrication for a few seconds.. This will cause premature engine wear.

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

My engine oil pressure gauge is showing 73psi at idle and as I drive it goes up to 90psi under 2oooRPM.. both the computer and gauge read the same psi.. Can I drive like this? What is the solution?

That is normal, many vehicle normal pressure is 50 psi and minimum is 15. The pressure you have is good,Its high but good, some high oil pressure will cause the lifter to solidify and then a misfire will occur, and again this is very rare.many oil pump in yester year car was driven by a worm gear attatch to a distributor, and it is still but without the distributor. So the oil pump is driven the same way and is monitored by the oil pressure sensor,(when oil pressure is low the light will go off then you would know you got a problem). The faster the car is driven the more lubrication its going to need so the oil is buid up at the same time engine demands are high. You dont have anything to worry about enjoy the car come on its a Corvette. Just make sure the level is good and change when its needed.

How to assemble oil pump 1995 Heritage

Assembling an oil pump is not that difficult provided you do a few things to insure that it works correctly. Now, you didn't tell me if the engine was in the frame or out. The difference is that the oil pump drive shaft will already be in the engine and the assembly will be different than if the shaft is out of the engine.

The first thing is that you want to make sure the oil seal is in the pump body and that it's installed in the correct direction. The lip of the seal must face the feed side of the pump. If you look at the gears and the pump body, you'll see that two gears are "thicker" than the other two. Also, the area that these gears go into are the same, one side it deeper than the other in the pump body. The "thin" gears are the feed gears that pump oil into the engine and the "thick" gears are the scavenge gears that pump the oil out of the engine. Once you get the seal installed correctly. You can start putting the gears and drive keys in.

Start by pulling the drive shaft out the back side to the engine as far as possible and installing the inner oil pump gasket. "Stick" the gasket to the engine case with a thin coating of grease. Slide the driven scavenge gear on the shaft with the drive key installed in the keyway of the shaft. The driven gear is the gear with the keyway cut in it. Lubricate the drive shaft and slide the pump body up to the gears making sure you don't go too far and knock the key out of the shaft.

Now put the drive key for the feed side of the pump in the keyway of the shaft and install the feed side driven gear. Make sure the key does not come out of the keyway. Once you get this installed, put the idle feed gear in the pump body. Then install the snap ring on the pump end of the shaft.

Now, carefully slide the pump towards the engine while holding the oil pump drive gear in place in the cam chest. Slide the pump body up to the engine and loosely install the two short bolts in the pump body holding it to the engine. Turn the pump drive shaft and the drive gear so that the keyways are aligned and use a pair of needle nose pliers to insert the key. Then install the snap ring on that end of the shaft.

Then, "stick" the outer oil pump gasket on the outer face of the oil pump body and install the outer cover of the oil pump. Install the four bolts and snug them up to the cover. Now you are ready to tighten the bolts. You should have the pinion gear and oil pump drive gear removed from the pinion gear of the pinion shaft of the flywheel. This will allow you to turn the oil pump while you torque the bolts.

The oil pump bolts torque to 90-110 INCH pounds. Torque the bolts in a criss cross pattern while turning the drive gear in the cam chest with your fingers. If the pump tightens up at any point, you must loosen and reposition the pump slightly and start tightening the pump again. The goal is to get the pump to final torque and still be able to turn the pump freely. Freely is the key word here. Not herky-jerky turning or having to force the gear to turn.

Good Luck

The oil pressure sensor light keeps coming on after the engine has heated up and driven awhile. We have replace the oil pressure switch but keep having the same problem? Any more suggestions?

. THATS USUALLY A SING OF THE OIL PUMP GOING BAD/WORN BEARING AT CRANK CAMS . WHEN ENGINES COLD THE OIL IS THICKER AND WHEN THE OIL HEATS UP IT GET THINNER CAUSING LOW ENGINE OIL PRESSURE. IF USUALLY THE LIGHTS COMES "ON" AT IDLE AT NORMAL TEMPETURE AND IT GOES AWAY WHEN ACCCELERATED. THOSE ARE SINGS OF WEAK OIL PRESSURE. ALSO CHECK THE THE WIRE TO THE OIL PRESSURE SENDER FOR RUBBING OR WEAR. HOPE THIS HELPS. THE BEST WAY TO BE SURE IS GETTING A OIL PRESSURE TESTER AT HARBOR FREIGHT THERE LIKE $20 OR SO AND TEST THE PRESSURE. AN AVERAGE SHOULD BE ABOVE 15PSI AT IDLE AND HIGHER 2500 RMS AT 22,000 35,000 PSI GOOD. HOPE THIS CAN HELP OR GIVE YOU A LEAD OR HLEP... SEND ME A FEEBACK PLEASE THANKS

Reinstalling oil pump and cams on a 2003 Harley Davidson FLSTC

Absolutely!!! Have you replaced the stock cams with gear driven cams? On almost all cams there are "dots" or "circles" to mark where the cams should be. Additionally if using gear driven cams depending on who makes them there may some additional installation considerations, grinding for clearance, etc.
Also refer to the cam documention on piston position when installing. Hope this helps.

John deere 445 tractor v twin 22 hp engine, john deere k series, no compression, removed valve covers and valves not moving, is there a timing chain, gear ?? or what drives the cam? Do you think the cam...

The cam has broken, this is a common problem with the 425/445. The cams are very cheap, made with plastic. Had mine replaced last year at the cost of about $300. Had water pump replaced as well.

Oil Pressure Drops While Driving

your oil pump is either weak or there is sludge i9n the oil pan. my adives is to have the oil pan dropped . chances are sludge is the culprit. as the oil get's warm the pressure should only drop slightly but pressure is generally dictated by engine rpm. pumps are gear driven so if it was a bad pump your oil pressure would start out very low at start up.
