There are two "shocks" underneath the bike. You need to loosen a large nut on each, and turn the shocks on the threaded rod an equal distance on each. You will need a special spanner for the turning the shocks I believe.
You have to get right down flat on the ground and look under the bike between the frame rails in front of the rear tire and you'll see them.

I have 1997 suzuki freewind which i know can have its ride height lowered i think mine has and i wsant to return it to standard how doi do it

Check the rear shock absorber and spring. Some bikes have preset 'notches' to raise and lower the ride height. You will need to raise the bike on a SAFE centre lift to take the weight off the rear suspension arm to adjust it. Most bikes have it set to the middle notch as standard. If the shock assembly is still too high you might need to replace the shock And spring to a shorter, stiffer set.

Yamaha settings

bottom of forks turn all the way in, then back out 12 clicks
top of fork - trail riding = all the way out then turn in 2 clicks, track riding = turn in 8 clicks
Rear spring needs to be adjusted so the tip of the rear fender drops 2.75" when sitting on it.
The top adjustment (compression valve) will be close to all the way out for trail and 5 to 8 clicks turned in for track.
The bottom adjustment meters how slow or fast the shock extends (rebound). Stand on something at peg height with one foot on the peg and the other on your stand and shove the bike down. Adjust the bottom (rebound) clicker to match the front of the bike so that both return to top at the same time.
This is a good starting point for any bike.
To fine tune your suspension it is always best to have a suspension tech watch you ride and make adjustments until the chassis of the bike stays flat while the suspension does its work. Usually take a tech 20 minutes to set the front and rear compression and rebound track-side!

How to adjust suspension stiffness ride is fairly

Pull off the plastic left side cover below the seat - go easy so you don't damage the tabs.
Remove the tool box cover.
Remove the tool box tray (2 bolts).
Use the tool provided in your OEM tool kit, and use the flattened tubular extension for more leverage.
Use gloves to save your knuckles.
Higher # stiffer - lower # softer.
A lot easier if you have a jack to get the weight off the rear wheel.

Adjusting twin cam back shocks the best setting

There is no single "best setting". It depends on you and your riding style. Heavier riders sometimes need a stiffer suspension. Same goes with those that do a lot of "Two Up" riding. Some riders seem to prefer a stiffer suspension because of their riding style. While others want the nice soft ride. The adjustment of the shocks is a personal type adjustment. Just try different positions under different conditions until you find the best for you.

Adjust rear suspension on a 2001 harley davidson fat boy

If the rear shocks are completely stock and have not had a lowering kit installed then the ride height is non-adjustable. You could adjust the tension or the "ride comfort" with specialized tools. As any part of a vehicle's suspension directly affects the motorcycle's operation and its safety I'd suggest letting qualified people help you with your motorcycle.

Handling badly very ridgid and unstable arond

i am guessing that you bought the bike secondhand,if so you will probably find that the preload on the front and rear suspension is set to hard,to adjust the rear(some bikes come with the wright tool, but not many)look to the top of the rear suspension shock you should see two locking nuts that go right around the shock, undo the top one(may need to use a large screwdriver and hammer)undo it till about 1/2 inch away from other nut then undo bottom nut and undo till it meets the other nut then sit on the bike and bounce your behind on the seat and see what it feels like it should be softer, repeat the sequence untill you get the suspension feeling the way you want(dont forget to screw the top nut down and lock it tight when you are done, the front forks should have an ajustment for preload, these are normally a simple screw in srew out adjustment, located on the top of each fork leg, screw in(to right) to stiffen up the suspension screw out(to left)to soften up i hope this helps, most ducatis have numerous adjustment for preload, rebound, and damping so what i would do is find a ducati dealer or some one who has a bike similar to yours and get them to run through the various settings and adjustments with you ,you will be surprised at the extent to which you can tune the bikes chassis and suspension to suit your riding style and even the types of road or race track you ride on,i can retune the suspension of my race bike as i have noted the settings for each track i race on and it is worth about 3seconds off my lap times...hope this helps

Rear air ride suspension is not maintaining height

The are ride height adjusters the look like arms. they are mounted on the bottom of the struts and lower control arms that control the height The can be adjust but for the most part if the were working fine before then they need to be replaced. Make sure that there are no leaks in the system.
