So the new battery has a full charge and you checked right?
And if everything was OK last year, I would suspect a bad battery cable or ground strap from the battery. Check all the connections to make sure all are good. Remove any corrosion if present. I have seen car battery cable corrode internally which will give fits trying to diagnose the issue.

thanks so much for your assistance. I will ask my husband if he tested the new battery. I am thinking he would just assume it was charged so will test it tonight. He did look at the leads to make sure they were not coroded (spelling). Maybe he should just replace the battery cables to eliminate the possiblity of internal corrosion? Do you think it could possibly be the alternator?

The only way to easily check to see if it is the alternator, is to have it running so the output could be checked.

I am glad you found the problem and were able to correct it.

I have a 2009 Yamaha v-Star 250, the battery died.got a new one and I drove it when I went to restart it nothing I roll started it. but my lights were dim . Won't start now. What is the issue?

Defective alternator. That is what keeps the battery fully charged. Once the bike is started, the alternator is what keeps the lights on and bright, not the battery. The battery is used just to start the bike only. Dim lights, means that only the battery is powering the lights.

Can a voltage regulator/rectifier if not working properly blow the main fuse. I have a 2002 v-star 1100. I was riding when all of a sudden the bike died on me. I lost all power no light, turn signals,...

YES!
Good link here:
http://www.flygenring.dk/yamaha/artikler/1100ChargingSystem.pdf

Symptoms:
Lights flickering at times and/or battery gets hot to the touch

Problem:
Reglator/Rectifier

When the regulator dies, it allows as much as 19 volts to appear across the battery. This is not good. It will cook the battery and the battery could even explode. Fuse can not stand up to this!

Where is the battery location for my 2007 vstar 1100. and how often do i need to charge it.

Battery is under the seat. Buy a battery tender and keep it hooked up when not riding in the winter. If you are in an area of the country where you can ride year round then a battery tender is not necessary. Battery will probably last 3+ years if properly maintained. I owned a 2000 V-Star 1100 Classic and it was a fine bike.

2000 yamaha vstar 1100 custom. starter problem?

Could be a starter issue, or a wiring issue. Check for power at the starter when the button is pressed. If you have power, you need a starter, if not, trouble shoot the electrical system.
