SOURCE: clicking noise when starting
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Your description could be any of 2 possibilities:
To determine which, jump the 2 bog terminals of the starter relay when starting the bike; if the motor turns, the relay/solenoid is defective; if the starter motor does not turn, the starter motor is defective (most likely the carbon brushes).
To determine the location of the starter relay/solenoid, follow the clicking sound and would look like the image below.
While the starter motor would look like this
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Sound like a fuel problem.drain gas from gas tank and carb.you may have to take off the carb and clean it .If it is fuel injection they will have to be clean to.This will happon when a bike set that long

Hvae you put on an aftermarket pipe? If so I owuld recomend rejetting the carbs. It probaly happens alot when the temp changes outside.
SOURCE: r1 no neutral light wont start on button bump
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Try with the clutcj lever pulled. Check / trace the sky blue wire to the neutral switch. Whne transmission is in neutral this wire must have continuity to ground.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
SOURCE: hard to start cutting out 2007 r1
hi, if the 2007/2008 r1 spins fast but chgs and has to be coakst with the throttle to keep running and cuts out when the throttle is closed then it maybee due to the battery, i have fixed lots of them now afterm much fault finding by fitting a new genuine or yuasa battery. The problem is that all the power is being used to spin the engine and even once started there is not enough voltage to fire the spark and injectors properly and the charging system has not yet been able to pull the battery up. REPLACE THE BATTERY IT WILL SORT IT, PAUL (YAMAHA DEALER)
i put in a new ignition. now my fuel pump wont ingage and my neutral
light wont come on. for some reason my bike will not start or turn over.
what is wrong and how do i fix it?
