SOURCE: how to access the battery on a 2001 Suzuki

Use the allen wrench from the on board tool kit to remove the bolt behind the passenger seat pad, above your rear wheel. Pull the pad backwards to reveal 2 more bolts. Same allen wrench removes these two and the strap that secures the passenger pad. Pull the saddle back and you are done. Note that the bolt for the rear seat and the 2 for the saddle are not the same lengths when you go to put your cycle back together.
Battery is under the saddle.

How do I replace the battery on a 2001 Suzuki Volusia Intruder?

To replace the battery:

1- remove the rear (passenger) seat by removing the single bolt behind it. Remove the seat by lifting it up and back

2- Remove the front (driver's) seat). Remove the two bolts behind it and remove the seat by lifting it up and back.

3- Removing the seats will give you access to the battery under the driver's seat.

4- Carefully remove the positive and negative battery cables from the battery, then lift the battery straight up.

5- Place the new battery in the bike

6- Replace the cables, red is positive (+), black is negative (-)

7- replace the seats, and you should be good to go!
