I have an 86 Yamaha Virago 535. While warming up the bike, the starter button got stuck. It ran for about a minute before I realized it. Now the bike will not start. All the light turn on, etc... (new battery). Did i burn out the starter??? Second problem - bike iss running rough - I was told by a mechanic that the carburator Diaphrams might be old. They look fine but I don't know what to look for. Any help is appreciated. HQ [email protected]

The starter setup on those Viragoes are not that bad to do. The only thing I don't like about it is the the pinion gear. The pinion gear is also a clutch. When they get old they can either jam or slip. It sounds like the starter is damaged. Check starting system before installing the new starter. You want to make sure there isn't a short. Replace the little clutch setup too I believe it is sold seperately.

1999 yamaha xv 535 when you start the bike there

I have a 94 virago that had that problem last year. First, is your starter switch releasing all the way out? Mine was sticking. Also the regulator-rectifier needed replacing, as it was no longer damping the current, which leads to surges, especially when revved. If you have a manual it will tell you how to check the current running through the bike. Replacing the regulator is cheap and easy even for me with my limited bike knowledge! Hope this helps. Charlie.

Yamaha virago 535 turn ignition on neutral light is flashing and there is a clicking noise coming from the electrical system bike wont start

These are known for starter problems... The clicking you hear is the relay but the bendix is locked up put it in about 3rd gear and rock it hard forward and back. Bendix may release. Make sure battery is good. As I said before these bike are well known for their starter problem and even after having it fixed by a dealer problem seems to show back up after a very short time. Good Luck!

I was riding my '94 Virago 535 when it made a loud whirring sound then the bike stalled and I was unable to start the bike again. When I press the starter button nothing happens except the headlight goes...

Yes, the starter clutches sometimes get stuck on those bikes.
Then the starter turns at very high speeds and get broken.
Remove the starter from the engine ( that's an easy job )
Hold the starter in a bankwrench and connect a 12V battery to it. If the starter turns, he is OK, if not, replace the starter and his clutch system.
