How do you get the headlights out on a 2008 Nitro. I need to replace both bulbs. Do you twist them out ? It feels like there is a spring wire or something holding the bulbs in. How about speed is there a way to get more speed from the factory motor? It feels like there is more motor but it can't go over 32 mph. Is there a governor or is it factory set in the CDI.

Probably a quick and straightforward process:
Go to local parts store to get replacement bulb. If it is the type that fits into a holder, continue.........
- Open hood
- Look at back of bad headlight
- Wire will go to Back of light to bulb holder
- Twist holder counter clockwise to remove
- Pull out old bulb
- Insert new bulb
- Reverse rest of process.

You do it from the back side of the Headlight Assembly. Open the hood and look behind the Headlight and you will see where the wires connect to the bulb. Disconnect the wire harness and unfasten the bulb by undoing the spring clip or locking ring depending on the truck.

Most of the headlights do not unbolt to change bulbs. If it's a blown bulb you're trying to replace, look on the back side of the headlight housing. There should be a plug with wires attached going into the back. This plug should twist either to the right,left or up or down. Once you've twisted this plug out of the headlight housing you'll see the bulb you need to replace. Unplug the wire harness from the blown bulb and place it into the new bulb, being careful not to touch the new bulb with your bare hands as any oil or other contamination will cause these bulbs to blow as soon as they are turned on. Place the new bulb with harness back into the socket in headlight housing and twist into position.

How do you know the bulb is good? Even if it uses the same bulb as the tail light it is always a different filiment. But if you tried replacing the bulb and the fuse than it has to be the wiring. If it's a 2008 it should be covered by the warranty, I would bring it into the dealer.

The halogen headlight is basically a bulb that is replaced from behind the headlight assembly inside the hood. Hyundai has a cover that keeps moisture and debris out. To remove it, simply twist the cover counter clockwise. Once removed, you should be a locking "bracket" that will resemble a small wire handle. This locks the bulb into place. The handle can be released by "squeezing" it together (on some models, the handle is kept in place by a notch) and pulling up. Once released, you will be able to remove the plug and old halogen bulb.
Once the bulb is replaced, reverse the instructions to re-assemble. Best of luck and thank you for using Fixya! Greg

While yours may differ; since headlight assemblies are no longer 'sealed' units, the bulb socket is generally accessible from under the hood and behind the headlight. Some use spring clips to hold the bulb in place, others are 'twist to remove' sockets. There will likely be a rubber boot snapped over the socket making it less visible.
If your car is equipped with halogen bulbs, be careful not to touch the quartz (clear) section of the new bulb or wipe it clean with alcohol if you do since these can burn-in a fingerprint if oils are present when turned on.

fIRST YOU SEE A RUBBER GASKET SURROUNDING THE HEADLIGHT PLUG IN THE BACK OF THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. pULL OFF THE GASKET AND LET IT HANG ON THE SURROUN DING HEADLIGHT WIRES. tHEN PULL OFF THE HEADLIGHT WIRE HARNESS BY GRABBING THE SOCKET (NOT THE WIRES). AROUND THE BULB IS A THIN SILVER HOLDING SPRING THAT LOOSENS BY SQUEEZING THE ENDS TOGETHER AND ROTATING IT. iT WILL LOOSEN AROUND THE HEADLIGHT. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE HEADLIGHT WILL "FLOP" AROUND AND PULL IT OUT, REMEMBERING TO SEE HOW THE THREE CONNECTORS ARE LOCATED (I.E - IS ONE CONNECTOR AT 12 O CLOCK POSITION AND THE OTHER TWO ARE AT 9 AND 3 OR ARE THEY AT 3,6 AND 9, ETC.). rE-ASSEMBLY IS THE OPPOSITIE. tHE TRICK IS TO GET THE THIN SPRING WIRE BACK IN PLACE. YOU HAVE TO SQUEEZE THE SPRING AND RE-POSITION IT SO IT KEEPS THE BULB SECURLY IN PLACE

Having just changed the bulb, I would advise taking the whole headlight assembly out first. It is near impossible to feel or imagine how to change the bulb without seeing it. First, use a phillips screwdriver to take the single screw holding the strip off just below the headlight assembly. By doing so, you will now see the other two bottom bolts holding the headlight in. Take all four bolts out then disconnect the bulb from behind. Then proceed as above.

You shouldn't have to remove the entire headlight assembly to change the bulbs; They should either twist out, snap out, or have a spring clip that holds the bulbs in.

Remove the headlight assembly. Just remove the 3 bolts with a 10 mm socket and pull it out so you can disconect the wire harness. After that pull the whole assembly out and unscrew the bulb cover. The bulb is held in with a spring clip.
