Hi Nicole,
Let's try this first... it could just simply be that the coolant (antifreeze) level is too low. Let's check it...
When the engine is cold, take off the radiator cap. When you open up the hood, it USUALLY is on the left side of the engine compartment closest to the front of the car. It looks something like the radiator cap below. You have to seriously push down on the cap while you turn it counter-clockwise. It may turn about 1/4 turn counterclockwise and the feel like it stops. At this point push down hard on it and the continue turning counter clockwise.
So look inside and you should see a greenish or pinkish fluid (the coolant). If you cannot see coolant or it is not full, fill it with a 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze. A funnel makes it much easier. Suggest adding a bit of water (a few cups) then a bit of antifreeze alternating to approximate the 50/50 mixture. If you bounce the car a bit, you may get it to bubble up and make more room. (or you can buy some "premix"... but it is just watered down antifreeze and is therefore more expensive. Fill it right to the top.
Put the cap back on tightly.
Now look on the left side somewhere near the left fender. There likely is two plastic tanks with plastic fillers.... one is for windshield washer anti-freeze and the other is for an overflow tank for the coolant as it heats up in the motor and expands. As it cools, it will **** in the extra coolant in reserve that is in this tank. Look on the side of the plastic tank for a "cool" and "warm" level indicator and fill it up with more 50/50 mixture.
NOW... this is assuming that if was coolant level that is causing your problem. Please let me know... if this doesn't work, we'll work on a second solution.
I'll be waiting to hear from you...
