Turn lights on complete display goes out

Hi guys have just bought a 2000 R6, not used in a while till I bought it, main problem is, when lights are off, display is fine and is rev counter and dash light, when I turn lights on it all goes out, once turned lights off it comes back all fine. I also have engine hesitation at lower revs high revs are fine, last time I had this problem on a GSXR I changed the generator and all was fine, the one on my R6 seems to be doing the job just fine! maybe a carb balance is needed for that? many thanks in advance for any ideas :) Darryl

Not quite sure about your light problem, but sound like you might have something mis-wired from the ignition switch check the cannon plug for any bent or shorted pins, as far as the hesitation since the bike hasnt been used in awhile im sure the carbs/fuel injectors are all varnished up, you need to purchase some Sea Foam @ Autozone $10 pour in 1/3 can to 2 gallons fuel and replace or clean out your fuel filter if that hasnt been done, now ride it on an open highway for about 10 to15 miles and that stuff should clean it up and even return any lost hp.

Ignition wont turn off

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, it would appear that some of the contacts of the main (ignition) switch has fused together. To check, with the ignition switch off and key removed, all wires from the ignition switch must have no 12 volts reading except for the red.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
