Honda CB Seven Fifty 1992. Sudden engine noise

Honda CB Seven Fifty 1992. 20000 miles. Mint Condition, always regularly serviced. Never ridden hard. Normally totally quiet engine. Started the other day and now makes the most terrible sound from the engine crankshaft area I think. Like a very loose cam chain. Have checked that the tensioner is OK - took it out, examined it, reset it but made no difference. Noise worse under load. Still like a very loose cam chain - could it be the altenator chain?

Hi, i dont have solution but think I have exactly the same problem, But noise not there under load, just at low revs, no power loss, Bike shop took off rocker cover and said no problem there, but would need to take engine apart to check hydraulic lifter?, which would end up costing more than the bike is worth and still not know where the problem is. Bike is a honda Bb 750 K2 in perfect condition otherwise, So did you eventually find problem. regards John. ([email protected])

Hi, had the same problem, turned out to be alternater chain tensioner, mechanic checked this by taking off alternator cover ( 3 Allen bolts) and checking for play, should be no play. mine had play so problem with tensioner, Which will cost over 2500- AUD at least to repair as need to completly take engine apart. So thats the end of my bike, not worth doing the repair with the risk of it going again, my advice dont buy a 1992 honda bb 750

just got same problem , not happy at all . love the bike but wonder what will happen if i just carry on and not bother with the fix. not worth the cost as i have also been told its a engine out job and would cost loads to fix. sad cos its a nice bike as you will all know . my problem was starting from cold , large bang and then could not turn engine over , trying for a min then it started but gave me the rattle ..

I am not familiar with every engine Honda builds, I don't know what a alternator chain is. Normally the cam chain is quiet. You say it runs so it can't be too out of adjustment. If you wish to keep this bike in mint condition, I suggest you have this fixed by a Honda Pro before the condition worsens.

Online manuals

Buy a Haynes or Clymer workshop manual for your bike and follow the instructions. The fact that you are doing some work yourself will means the manual pays for it self, as it gives all the information you need to repair, rebuild and maintain your bike. The job is an easy one, but things may be complicated by the cause of the broken old one. Once you have read one of these manuals you will find regular maintenance of most motorcycles is simple without the manual. Good luck.

Yup, or it even may have a oil pump chain also. These are very deep inside....but. Can you hear the noise if you remove the spark plugs and rotate it by hand? You should be able to turn it by either end of the crank end bolts (Flywheel bolt)

2 months ago i bought a second hand honda cb seven fifty f2 93 model the previous owner said he had only just put a new clutch in it but now when i start it up (i always leave it to warm up for a few...

It is possible that some of the clutch plates are stuck together. When you put in new clutch plates you are supposed to soak them in oil before installing them. If they were put in dry it would cause this kind of issue. All you can do is take the clutch apart and inspect them. Coat them with oil and put them back together. On most Honda's to put the cycle in first gear you have to pull the clutch lever all the way to the handle bar. After that you can shift the bike by feathering the clutch or by only pulling the lever approximately half way. Be sure you are fully engaging the clutch when you shift the motorcycle into first gear.
