I've owned the same model, my uncle has the bike now. Check that your radiator fan is operating smoothly. Especially if the light comes on while sitting still, and goes off when moving. Check your Oil Level as well for cooling. Oil has just as much if not more to do with cooling. I'm sure you check your oil, but I can't leave it unsaid ;o) Could be the water pump, especially if you've ever put automotive coolant in the bike! But since a pump goes out and doesn't come back on it's own. I don't think your light would have cut back off.

This leads me to think yes, but I would be fixing the engine you have. Aluminium can be welded, spray coated and reground to fix any damage.

I have a 1998 Honda Shadow ACE Tourer VT100t. It had no power uphill when I took on a long ride, and recently, when I throttle, the engine dies. What is going on with it? Is this an easy fix? @

Has this vehicle been regulary serviced ? these syptoms could be a numbers of things, i would have the ignition system checked, and the fuel and air delivery as a starting point
