Jack, find a newer bike. Most dealers will not work on a bike over ten years old. Parts availability is one reason. Another is the workload in the shop and the need for the mechanics to stay current with the new models coming out yearly. If they fixed every bike that came in the service backlog would be really bad.

The KLX 300 was never a popular bike. Not many still arround. I would not buy the bike until I rode it for an hour or so. You gotta check the suspension, handling, power, shifting smoothly, shocks, forks, power valve, clutch, water pump, oil pump, radiator, electrical system, front and rear brakes, carb, rings,

Sorry about that, I hit the send button too soon.... Anyway, there is no way I would buy a bike blind if I were you. If the owner wants to sell it to you he should get it running. I could be he doesn't want it to run. If it did run you would find out that it doesn't shift, some gears are broken, the clutch is burned up or the crank bearings and seals are shot. At the very least, take it to a motorcycle mechanic and let him check it as best he can in a non-running state.

Jack, I suggest you start calling dealers and asking what they have taken in on trade. Stick with Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda. Ask them if they went through the bike before putting it up for sale. By doing that you can avoid searching for a dealer to fix your Quinjang 250, (not many Quinjang dealers in the USA). You may pay a bit more at the dealers but you know the bike is reasonably sound. This is personal opinion, but I suggest an air cooled 250 single cylinder two stroke. Now you don't have water pump, radiator or thermostat issues. You also get the benefit of lower repair costs than a twin cylinder. The bike is lighter and has more than enough power to be fun.

1998 Kawasaki Klx300 I was riding my dirt bike and the idler gear broke. I replaced the idler gear now theres no compression on the bike, it won't start at all. Kick lever does move bUT doesn't strt

idler gear nothing to do with engine timing .right

did the bike stop dead when the idler pulley broke
if the timing chain skipped a tooth some how
timing marks could be off by one tooth only

strange you have spark and fuel but no compression

you will have to take of some covers off
recheck timing marks
check valves and piston are no damaged

1998 Kawasaki KLX 300 won't start.

You cant check the compression on those bikes due to the compression release on the exhaust cam. 75psi is ok. 64 to 125 psi due to the fluctuation caused by the release mechanism. Please dont say things that aint true. People that need help may tear down a goid engine due to your bad advice.

Car wont start. my headlights work and all the lights on the dash turn on including the lights in the car. thought it was the starter so i replaced it. turns out the starter was bad, but made the same...

In all honesty here i have never worked on one so i cannot comment on this model haveing a problem with a fuel pump as a fault of the model type fault so as a complete stranger to working on this vehicle i would adopt a different approach and firstly i would see if its sparking by sticking a old plug on the end of any plug lead and see if i get a spark ,then if i got as spark i would then look for the bleed off valve on the fuel injection feed pipe and see if their is fuel pressure when the end of the valve is pushed in.,Now if no spark and no fuel pressure try the spare key as it could be the immobilisor .But untill you do a basic check first then do not go changing any parts because somebody had a problem with their vehicle and changed that or this and you think it could be the same problem .

How do yo adjust the air/fuel mixture on a 2002 KLX300?

Kawasaki made them that way in order to meet the California emissions controls. ie. there is one available size pilot jet, main jet and needle from Kawasaki. They are all pre-set. Many people buy a Mikuni pumper carb. I didn't. I own a machine shop so I modified the stock one. I made some mini adjustment rings for the needle and modified the main jet diameter to suit. I had to tune it until it didn't lean bog any more. Now it runs great. The mod worked for me. I was leaving to go riding the next day so getting the carb wasn't an option. Most people buy the carb and like it.
