Question about 1992 Honda CBR 1000 F

1 Answer

Hi, The rectifier of my honda CBR 1000f year of made: 1992 has just burned again. I had the old one replaced last november 2009. I want to know what the problem could be that the new one has burned. What does the colors black and white stand for. The old rectifier had 6 pins and the number of the rectifier was SH261-12 9.0.The replacement was ERS230 from the USA. There is a 7th wire that was tight on the outside of the rectifier. The colors from the pin were 1 red, 3 yellow , 1 black and 1 white. Thanks ....

The three yellow wires carry AC current from the generator to the rectifier. The rectifier turns this AC current into DC current and sends it back to the battery through the red and the black wires. I am not certain what the purpose of the 7th wire is on the new rectifier except that it may be used for thermal sensing of the rectifier - which would explain why it is mounted tight to the unit.
Of all the components that make up your Honda's charging system, the rectifier is the most likely to fail. The reason is usually excess temperature buildup - which causes the diodes inside it to fail. If you are running extra electrical accessories on your bike, this can cause the rectifier to overheat and die. Same thing if you frequently let the bike sit until the battery goes dead, the rectifier works hard to recharge it each time.
You may be able to extend the life of the unit by avoiding things that put extra strain on it, as described above. Also make sure there's nothing covering the cooling fins on the rectifier - or blocking airflow to it (dirt, that extra pair of gloves stuffed next to it, etc.).
Finally, there's one thing that will kill the rectifier instantly: connecting the battery cables backwards. That'll fry it every time.

Where is the rectifier located on my cbr 1000f?

It is located on the right side under the seat right about where it says "CBR" on the seat fairing, you will have to remove the two bolts that hold the passenger handrail on and slide the fairing backwards.

I HAVE A 98 HONDA CBR 600 F3 I CHANGE THE STATOR AND CHANGED THE RECTIFIER AND I STILL DRAINS MY BATTERY QUICK I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO NO PLEASE HELP

put a volt meter across the battery, engine stopped must be over 12v.
rev the engine to 3-4000 should rise to about 14v, this will show the charge system is working
Some batteries only last 12 months or so. if it is a couple of years old buy a new one, the gel ones seem to last longer

Can you tell me where the fuel filter is located on my 1991 cbr 1000 honda thank you

The fuel filter on a 1991 CBR 1000F is mounted to the petcock assembly (the part that the fuel lines are connected to). If you removes the petcock assembly it is the piece sticking up like a tower but is part of the petcock assembly. You can however use a very fine children's toothbrush and carb cleaner to clear it out a bit.

Please I ned to purchase a cluth for CBR-1000F

Here's a web site that deals in original equipment Honda parts:
http://www.powersedge.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/default.aspx

Once you are there, select the year and model of Honda that you need parts for from the drop down boxes. What I like the most about this place is that their site shows you the same exploded-view parts diagrams, with part numbers, that Honda dealers across the country use.
