Question about 2005 Gilera Nexus 500

The twist grip throttle on my 2002 vxr 200 has suddenly started sticking. Every thing else on the bike is perfect. How do I access the cable ( which panels come off ) and any ideas what it could be before I start looking? Thanks

Try looking for a kink in the line where the line meets the handle bars, should come apart by removing two screws from the underside. As this is a common kink point and can be seen with little effort.

What would cause the throttle to stick at the hand grip

Causes for sticking are an abraded cable inner wire, a pinched cable, a cable gummed up with dirt, a gummed up twist grip assembly, an abused outside end of the twist grip and the twist grip assembly forced too deeply into the handlebar. Lube the cables with graphite lubricant only. Lock Eze is a brand name lubricant. If the cable is abraded or pinched, replace it. Please rate my answer.

Too much slack in the throttle on my 2005 softail duece (fuel injected)

Ok, I'm not very familiar with fuel injected models because I don't work on them but they should have a throttle cable like anything else. In the cable somewhere (usually close to the throttle grip) it has an adjuster. There should be two cables, a throttle cable and an idle cable. The throttle cable is the cable towards the front of the bike at the throttle mechanism as it pulls the throttle open. Loosen the lock nut and adjust the cable to take most but not all the slack out of the cable. You must have a bit of slack in each cable for the throttle to work freely. Do the same with the idle cable nearest the rear of the bike.
Once finished, with the engine off, twist the throttle grip to the wide open throttle position and release it. It should snap shut. If it doesn't it's not adjusted correctly. Readjust the throttle cable and idle cable until the throttle operates properly. You must get this right.

Failure to properly adjust the throttle cables could result in the loss of control of the bike resulting in serious injury or death. If you are not sure of how to do this, find someone who knows how to do it. You don't want your throttle sticking on you.

Good Luck

How do you adjust the throttle & idle cables on a 2009 sportser

Each cable has an adjuster near the throttle grip. They may be covered by a rubber boot. Slide the boot up so you have access to the adjusters. Loosen the lock nut on each cable. Now, adjust the throttle cable first. You want a little freeplay in the throttle grip when you start to turn it. Once you get it adjusted to that point, lock the lock nut. Then adjust the idle cable until it stops and back off just a bit. Lock the lock nut.

Now, with the engine OFF, twist the throttle to the wide open position and let go of it. It should 'snap" back to the closed position. If not, you may have the throttle cables adjusted too tightly. Back both of them off just a bit and retry. You want the throttle to "snap" shut on your bike. If not, it could cause you serious injury or death. If you're not certain of what you're doing, find someone that is experienced at doing this. You don't want your throttle sticking on your bike. This could be dangerous.

Good Luck

My hondA CR 125 2002 has a throttle problem, when i am riding it, the bike will run fine and kick over fine, untill the throttle just randomly sticks on. the throttle cable has been checked (all good) the...

Two things: First make sure there is some free play in the throttle cable. The twist grip should have a small amount of free-play, just a fraction of a turn, before the throttle actually begins to open. On the throttle cable, up near the handlebar, is a free-play adjuster.
Second, verify that the throttle cable is routed correctly. Confirm this by referring to the owner's manual for your Honda.
Both of these items are absolutely critical for correct and safe operation.

I have a sticky accelerator on my 02 wr426 ?

They can stick where the throttle tube turns on the handlebar, or the rubber grip touches the throttle assembly, assuming the cables are not frayed. they fray usually at either end, inside the twist grip or at the carby connection
