GM doesn't have the best tail light setup. do you own a test light? You should start at the back. The turn signals and hazards use one bulb. The brake light uses another bulb. Remove the bulb and carefully test for ground and power. If it is there then it is either the bulb or related contacts. If power or ground is not there then unplug the tail light assemble and test for power or ground again. The tail light circuit board is notorious for going bad. Please start here and write back if you need further help.
Use the wiring schematic to follow the wires and check for any breakage or burnt wires. Repair any breakage and recheck. Check all grounds in the circuit as well; a faulty ground can cause total loss of lights.
Check the brake light switch near the break pedal. Use a voltmeter to make certain the voltage is correct with switch engaged and disengaged. Check the grommet that depresses the switch as well. I had this problem with my 2007 Honda CRV -- all the lights worked EXCEPT the tail/running lights and the license plate light. The other tail lights worked -- brake, reverse, indicators, and hazards. Front headlights also worked, but when the headlights went on the back tail lights did not (not to safe for driving at night!!) The fuse was #15 in the interior fuse box (under the dash driver side) with the label "small exterior lights" ( also check fuse #19 labeled "small lights main"). The cause of my problem, I believe, is a bad or lose wire in my license plate light.
The tail lights and licence lamp is all the same circuit, should be a brown wire to all 3, it sounds like its broken in the harness somewhere (especially if the front park lamps work, then the fuse and switch are good). Trace back from rear lights until you find power. Check for pinched wires or cut, or bulges in the wire indicating resistence. Also if you have wired in a trailer plug, disconnect it and retry. Trailer wires are very seldomly wired properly and cause lots of light issues.
Before going ahead and spending money on a new module, test it first. The module is located under the steering column. You'll find a Brown wire on one of the connectors (i just looked at a wire diagram). Do no disconnect anything. Back probe the brown wire, which is the power feed to your park lights. With the lights off, there should be 0 volts on you voltmeter. Turn the park lamps on, There should be 12V. If there is not 12V, disconnect the connector and try to check voltage at the pin that feeds to the brown wire, if still not 12V, replace the module. If you do get 12V, then module is ok, find where the 12v is being dropped before making it to the lamps.
hi as you have checked all fuses for these light ok? and other lights are all working may i suggest you check the relay for side/tail lights which also includes licence plate light first it sound like the relay has failed if you look under fuse/relay cover you may find map indicating location? i would try this first b4 switch hope this helps?
Could you take out a bulb and with a testlight/probe check that you do in fact have power to that circuit .Also check that they are the correct bulb for that application I have seen people put indicator bulbs in where therse supposed to be a double filament bulb.Does the base of the bulbs lead contacts line up with the two steel terminals inside the plug?
