ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Sounds like your problem may be a broken belt, or the belt may have slipped off of the motor pulley, or idler arm pulley. If you have to replace your drum belt and if you have a front loading machine. Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer. Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum. Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn. While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them. I will include these two websites for parts and further help:
http://www.partselect.com/ http://www.appliancepartspros.com/index.aspx Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
Good luck, I hope this helps

Maytag legacy series washer

The drive motor which spins the drum is connected to the drum by a rubber belt. Sounds like the belt is burned through. Make sure you can spin the inside tub by hand to verify that the tub can turn freely before you replace the belt. The hum is from the drive motor just spinning freely.

I have a maytag model# mav2755aww, I have a burn smell when it's in the spin cycle. yes it is spinning the water is draining ?

Burning odor may be coming from a overheated motor under a heavy spin load.
Before going any further;
1.Make sure the circuit breaker for the machine is working properly and know its location.
2.Have a working fire extinguisher nearby.
3.If a electrical/motor fire starts, you need to turn off breaker power to the washer..Then use the extinguisher to put out any fire.
Try spinning the basket empty and see if the odor still persists if so, you need a new motor ..
If not, you have to think about the weight of the washload that the spin cycle must handle..
If a light load causes the same odor, stop using the machine until you replace the motor and check the transmission for any problems.

MAYTAG PERFORMA MODEL# PAV2300AWW, REVISION#12, SERIAL#12296390ZM Washer filled but made loud grinding sound while agitating. I couldn't drain water on spin cycle. Now it has stopped working, I smelled...

hello you need to change drum rollers but if u remarked water dawn the washer and burn smell it could be the motor OR THE BELT because when the drum stop turning or turn slowly the motor turn fast on the belt when spin time it make this smell .

Maytag Performa, Noisey spin cycle, now does not work

the belt may be old and stretched/slipping...if it is stretched and slipping it will cause the squealing .............otherwise, check the pulley for the belt/motor to see if it is okay and the motor itself copuld be worn out if the belt looks ok............be careful, you can get zapped if you touch a wire and also if the motor is burned up it can cause a fire so watch carefully and you should be able to see which of these possibilities are the problem..............

Maytag Performa PAV2300AWW screaching noise, belt problem, pulley broke

My Maytag Performa was making the loud squealing noise. I changed out the water pump/bearing, took care of the problem.
Putting a new belt on just help burn up the bearing (they needed replacing) and probably ruined the new belt. Probably seized the water pump bearing and the belt jumped and broke the motor pully. A washing machine motor is very strong, when that h20 pump bearing seized (or possibly some bearings jamed up) the motor kept on turning that belt and the plastic pully gave in. You'll need to replace that also. If the h20 pumb bearing is turning freely, likely the bearings jammed up but or now loose. That bearing should be tight, no slack or play in it. You can probably wobble the pully on it all around while turning it. The slightest slack is too much.

Maytag PAV2300AWW

hi there,

the humming is the motor trying to turn, which means it works. since you did not mention any error messages, it could just be a belt that slipped off the pulley. have you taken it apart yet?

it definitely worth fixing.

Washing machine has burning odor

smell usually come from motor over worked, possibly under powered( check to make sure you have a110 volt, supply and not perhaps 100, possible bad start capacitor eminating small as well, its mounted either to the motor itself or on the back wall just below the water valve assy
