Turn the engine so that the piston is at top dead center (TDC), verify by aligning the "T" mark on the flywheel. With the piston at TDC, insert the camshaft with the cam lobes facing down (all valves closed).

Audi a6 broken timing chain

Any specularion on amount of damage is pointless, you need ro take the head off and inspect pisons and valves. The valves may appear ok but if contact has been made with a piston, you will know this by obseving pitting on the top of the piston where the valve has hit, will probably mean bent valves.
There is a second point, I do not know if this is a safe or an interference engine.
If it is a safe engine the valves will not overlap with the pistons at any point, they will not occupy the same space at any point in the combustion cycle so there will be no damage in this eventuality.
Safe engines are, however, few.
I might obtain a used head from a breaker is there is too much valve damage.

Set timming on 220 bayou kawasaki

T is usually the mark on the flywheel and there's usually a mark on the cam sprocket and head to line up. you can google up a service manual too most likely.

Valve timming did timming chain and intake valve nicking piston ? i put gold marks on chain to marks on gears.but like i said i did this thrre times and the right head ,the intake valves are just nicking...

possibly you are 180 degrees off.
the timing marks are dimples on the gears to align up.
paint will be no use at all to use and have never heard of anyone using paint .
use paint on a crack balancer for the timing mark ony

When ticking over, sounds like the timimng chain ratling quite bad, but when reved the noise seems to disapear. engine still starts and goes ok.if it is timming chain loose can it be re tenchioned with out...

THE SOUND YOU HEAR IS A STRETCHED CAM CHAIN THEY HAVE SELF ADJUSTING CAM CHAIN TENSIONERS ITS TIME TO REPLACE YOUR CAM CHAIN YOU DONT WANT IT TO SKIP A TOOTH AND TAKE OUT YOUR PISTON AND VALVES POSSIBLY MORE

Timming

If the cam was installed 180 degrees out, the piston is probably hitting an open valve. The cam lobes should be pointing downward when cam chain timing is set. Pull the head then see if the kickstart lever is free to turn the crankshaft.
