Charging system poulan riding lawn mower

If a single cylinder ohv Briggs its likely a 3 amp unregulated stator. This is all a guess without engine numbers. There are 2 wires coming out from under the flywheel to a white plug. One of the wires has a length of heat shrink over a bulge just before the plug. This is a diode. The diode changes the ac output of the stator to dc and charges the battery. The other wire remains ac and powers the headlights when the engine is running. Test the charging system with a dc voltmeter, positive lead on the wire with the diode, negative lead to a good chassis ground. With engine running at 3/4 throttle you should get a reading of at least 12.7 volts.
If any other configuration I would need model, type, and code off the motor to help diagnose. Also wondering why you question the charging system since they are pretty much bullet proof.

1978 yamaha dt250 no brake lights, turn lights,no horn only front headlight good fuse runs fine

MAKE SURE THE BATTERY IS IN A GOOD STATE OF CHARGE, ON THE OLDER BIKES WITH AC LIGHTING THE BATTERY ACTS AS A RESISTOR, HENCE IF THE BATTERY ISOLD AND NO LONGER WORKING, WHEN YOU RUN THE MACHINE ALL THE BULBS WILL BLOW, STARTING WITH THE NEUTRAL LIGHT, AND SO ON, AS THE BRAKE LIGHT , HORN , AND INDICATORS ALL WORK ON THE DC ELECTRIC SIDE IT WOULD PROBABLY BE A GOOD IDEA TO CHECK YOU ARE GETTING 6VOLTS FROM THE BATTERY TO THE IGNITION SWITCH, YOU COULD LOOK FOR BROKEN WIRES AROUND THE HEADSSTOCK AREA, OR CORRODED BLOCK, AND OR BULLET CONECTORS ALSO IN THE COMPLETE HARNES.

It's a electrical problem

Hi,
I've not done much work on the Indian Enfield, more on Bsa's/Triumphs etc., However it appears that your charging system may be faulty?
When running can you meter the current to the battery? if 12ish on tickover and up to 13.8/14.5 when revved fine, try popping the side lights on if voltage drops drastically and doesn't improved with increased engine rev's then alternator problem or regulator?
Finally could there be a possible short circuit on the headlight? have you removed the lamp from the surround and looked at the switches rear? make a close inspection of the bulb filliament sometimes they fuse both main and dip beam together causing all sorts of grief.
Hope this helped,
