2001 kawasaki KLR 650 Logo
Anonymous Posted on Oct 02, 2009

My 2001 KLR 650 was recently stolen and recovered. In an attempt to get it started the thieves cut the wires from the loom to ignition switch and joined all (6) wires together. However as there is both positive and negative to the ignition all they managed to do is blow a main fuse. After fitting new ignition switch (Its fitted 100%) I now can,t get spark to spark plug . My gut feeling is having put a live to one of the negative wires which runs to the rotor and also to the cdi that either the pick up at the rotor is fried or the cdi has blown. Any thoughts on this wold be much appreciated before I go buying bits I don,t need.

I would definitely get a good manual with wiring diagrams. Make sure the CDI has power and ground to the proper CDI input wires, and that all wiring connections are tight. I'm assuming the battery is charged and the starter spins the motor over nicely. There may also be a throttle position switch which will kill the ignition if it senses a discrepancy in the throttle cable position. Try twisting open the throttle while cranking and you may get spark in a position other than idle.

Negative battery terminal

normally there is only one earth wire on a battery as all units earth through this wire to the negative terminal. I would not bother trying to reconnect the cut wires as this will lead to problems further on. Go to a wrecker that handles you model vehicle and get the positive terminal wiring loom and replace all the cut wires . Leave the negative terminal off while you are doing this.

My turn signals do not work and tail light samething fuse ok 2006 klr 650

start with your tail light, luck its a simple wire harness, with a test light start at the tail light and check for power if you have power you bulb is no good if you dont keep following the wire back checking for power along the way. youll run into your problem just take you time. as for you turn signals for the most part the same thing, but start at you handle bar switch. good luck
