From MidSouth Tech Tips:

  1. Before you try removing the headlight housings, check for a blown fuse first, since the headlight circuits on these cars are fused. The fuse is located on the regular fuse panel inside the car, on the left side of the dashboard behind the removable cover.Well, since there are no visible screws anywhere around, how do I get the headlight out? It’s not that hard at all.
  2. Open the hood. Locate the seam between the nosepiece and the front fender (either side). Go up between the first two fender mounting bolts and look down a few inches. See a small knob sticking out at you? That is a release lever for the headlight assembly. Push in on it slightly and pull all the way up as far as the lever will go.
  3. Now push on the headlight from behind with one hand and be prepared to catch the assembly with the free hand from the front. It may take a bit of a push because there is some gooey adhesive between the headlight and the fender.
  4. Once you have the headlight out, pull the connector off the back of the housing and take the headlight somewhere where it is easy to work on. Put it on a pillow or something soft so you don’t risk scratching the lens.
  5. There is a black plastic cover on the back of the housing. See a tab on it? Push on this tab and pull the cover down to expose the bulbs.
  6. There is a metal spring clip that holds these bulbs in place. Undo this and the bulb will fall out. Take out the new bulb and compare it with the one you are replacing. Make sure the wattage is correct, since they are both H1 bulbs.Never touch the glass part of the bulb itself with your fingers.
  7. Use the soft cloth to handle the bulb if needed. Line up the tabs of the bulb base with the slots in the reflector housing and drop the bulb in. Put the spring clip back on and make sure the ends of the clip are in securely. Put the bulb cover back on.Now is the time to clean up the mess around the fender where the headlight mounts. Remember seeing that nasty-looking goo seep out from around the rubber seal on your headlights? That’s the adhesive I was talking about earlier.
  8. Take the adhesive remover on the paper towels and remove this stuff from the fender before putting the headlight back in. Don’t remove all of it from behind the headlight itself, as it is there to keep excess amounts of water from getting behind the headlight. Just remove enough to where it won’t make a mess anymore. A little wax around the mounting area on the fender will detail things out nicely.
  9. Position the headlight up to the fender. Push on the wire connector. Line up the tabs on the headlight assembly to the slots in the headlight housing in the fender and push the whole thing in. Sometimes things won’t line up on the first try, but keep trying. The headlight should go up against the fender fairly easily.
  10. Once you get it to this point, grab the release lever, push all the way down, and lock the headlight assembly into place.
All you do now is test the lights. That’s it! The headlight aim should not have been affected during this procedure. Some wax or glass cleaner will be good for cleaning the lenses and make them sparkle again. If you have those trick blue bulbs or other colors, always keep a spare bulb handy, of the same color and manufacturer, so you won’t be stuck with odd colors until you get the right replacemen

You will need to look at the plug for the headlight. If it looks good, I would look for the headlight low beam fuse.

Replace bulb headlight

Most of the headlights do not unbolt to change bulbs. If it's a blown bulb you're trying to replace, look on the back side of the headlight housing. There should be a plug with wires attached going into the back. This plug should twist either to the right, left or up or down. Once you've twisted this plug out of the headlight housing you'll see the bulb you need to replace. Unplug the wire harness from the blown bulb and place it into the new bulb, being careful not to touch the new bulb with your bare hands as any oil or other contamination will cause these bulbs to blow as soon as they are turned on. Place the new bulb with harness back into the socket in headlight housing and twist into position.

How do you change the front drivers side headlight bulbs?

NO TOOLS REQUIRED. This can be done by touch on either the passenger or drivers's side. The bulb resides in a tube with a screw on end cap. Remove the end cap by screwing counter-clockwise. Reach in and you will feel 2 electrical leads. Pull both out. They will naturally stay one on top of the other, so no worries about them swapping places. Here is the tricky part. There is a wire that is holding the bulb in place. It looks complicated, but is made by design to be EASY to deal with. With your thumb, press the wire retainer in and a bit down. It will pop loose. Remove the bulb holding it by one of the electrical leads. Remove it carefully AND TAKE NOTE OF ITS' EXACT ORIENTATION SO YOU CAN PUT THE NEW BULB IN THE SAME WAY. Get the new bulb and remove from its' protective cover, holding it by its' electrical lead. Do not touch the bulb. The oils from your hand can reduce bulb life. As mentioned above, hold the bulb in the same orientation as the bulb you removed. The wire clip is as easy to replace as it was to remove. Push it forward and up. Again, it will snap into place. Replace the 2 electrical leads, and replace the screw on end cap. Test the headlight. BE CONFIDENT. THIS IS REALLY JUST AS EASY AS I HAVE DESCRIBED.

96 camry headlight dont work

Headlights are one of the most important safety features on your car, but they can only do their job if they're properly maintained. It's not just burned out headlights that cause problems; headlights that are dim or incorrectly aligned can also lead to accidents. Fortunately, learning how to repair headlights is something even the least mechanically inclined person can do. When you know how to repair headlights yourself, you can save up to several hundred dollars on mechanic's fees. Here are some tips on how to repair headlights with common problems.

Headlights that don't turn on
If you're headlights aren't working at all, the most likely cause is a burned out bulb. All you need to do to repair the headlights is replace the bulb. If you have plastic lenses, you can take out the old bulb by removing the lens and unscrewing the bulb from the back of the lens. With glass headlights, though, you'll need to replace the whole glass. Since you're buying new bulbs anyway, consider picking up one of the new, brighter types of bulbs, such as the halogen or xenon types.
When you've got your replacement bulb, install it and turn on the lights. If the headlights still don't work, it's a sign of an electrical problem. Because electrical problems are relatively complicated to repair, take your car to a mechanic before you try to do anything else with the headlights.
This will help. Thanks please keep updated. please please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

What do I have to do to change my headlight lamps in my 2003 dodge neon? I tried unscrewing the bolts on the bar under the hood but I didn't have any luck. Am I supposed to get in there some complicated...

I was literally looking up this same thing in the manual!
Do you have the manual?
There are drawings. Yes you have to:
remove 3 upper fascia (what is that??) screws
remove 2 screws from the headlight assembly
remove the assembly from the vehicle
remove a retaining ring and replace the bulb
disconnect the electrical connector
remove the retaining ring and replace the bulb

btw it says do not touch the headlight bulb with your fingers, oil contamination will SEVERELY shorten bulb life.

easy huh?

Trying to replace a front light on a Hyundai accent 07

OK on most Hyundais the bulb is held in place with what seems like a complicated system but it is quite easy and takes maybe 20 minutes. Open the hood and where the headlight is on the inside of the hood there should be a large rubber cover that covers up all of the headlight apparatus. Peel that back some and you should see the electrical connectors for the headlights. Using a screwdriver or something similar disconnect the electrical connector at that point you should be able to access the inner part where the bulb is. The bulb is held in place with what looks like a paper clip that has been bent at a lot of weird angles. What you will need to do is apply pressure on the free end of this paper clip looking contraption and it will lift up and the bulb pops out. Put the new bulb in, Pop the paper clip looking thing back into place, re-connect the electrical connectors and put the rubber cover back on. Then do the other side, it is best to do headlights in pairs because as soon as you do one side a week later the other side will burn out. You can generally also buy them as a pair a little bit cheaper. Hope this helps

Ford Focus Estate Diesel, 51 plate.

It turned out that the bulbs in the headlights had gone simultaneously. Luckily my son is knowledgeable about cars. He came over and figured out the problem. I had to purchase new bulbs, then my son had to practically dismantle the front of the car to change the bulbs. It was a complicated operation just to replace bulbs, and something I would not have been able to tackle myself. If it had not been for my son. I would have had to spend a fortune at a garage for a mechanic to replace the bulbs for me. What should have been a relatively simple task has become a mammoth operation. In years gone by it would have been a simple task that I could have performed myself. Why do manufacturers design cars so that it is so complicated just to replace the bulbs. There are so many things that have developed faults on this Ford Focus, I will never have another one.
