A motorcycle that turns over but doesn't start can be caused by a few different things. Some possible causes of the issue you are experiencing with your 2008 Yamaha V Star include:

  1. Fuel supply problem: If the fuel pump is not working properly or the fuel filter is clogged, it can prevent fuel from reaching the engine.
  2. Ignition system problem: If there is no spark at the coil packs, it could be due to a malfunctioning ignition module, a bad spark plug, or a problem with the ignition coil.
  3. Mechanical issue: If the engine is not getting compression, it could be due to a valve problem, a broken timing chain, or a seized piston.
  4. Electrical issue: If the engine is not getting power, it could be due to a dead battery, a corroded connection, or a problem with the starter.
It's best to check the battery and all the electrical connections first, also check if the spark plugs are fouled or damaged, if so change them

My 2002 Yamaha Road Star Midnight has no spark

I have 2002 road star midnight. I lost completely spark on all 4 spark plugs. Before bike was running OK but sometimes on low RPM while idling would skip a firing on a at least one cylinder making spufff like sound. I put new spark plugs, and wiggled a little coil wires. Bike with new spurk plugs would not fire up at all. Checked for spark on all 4 spark plugs - no spark., not even an electrical I lost completely spark on all 4 spark plugs. Before bike was running OK but sometimes on low RPM while idling would skip a firing on a at least one cylinder making spufff like sound. I put new spark plugs, and wiggled a little coil wires. Bike with new spark plugs would not fire up at all. Checked for spark on all 4 spark plugs - no spark., not even an electrical charge going to spark plug. Went back to coils. Each coil (there 2 of them) has 2 spark plug wires and 2 ignition timing signal wires connected to them. I realized that these ignition timing wires contacts are corroded to the point they would not conduct a charge from the distributor to coil. CLEAN ALL THE TIMING WIRES Contacts on the coils. I did that and bike fired up right away and started running much better without sputtering or skipping a cylinder firing. SO DISCONNECT ALL THE COIL WIRES AND BRUSH THE CONTACTS WITH A SMALL METAL WIRE BRUSH.

Charge up your battery. Check spark plug gap, look into your ignition coil they may be bad, but try the first two before you look at ignition coil o.k , hope this helps you .

Yamaha yz125 2008 Have no spark on the sparkplug. what is the reference valuees for the coil and for the sparkplugcap? Gearwheel

I don't have an exact for your model but resistance issue will be very easy to spot as when you test you will get usually zero as the reading if faulty
roughly speaking you would expect 240 - 380 and 720 - 1000 and 40 - 66 on the three pairs of wires coming direct from stator if you get zero as the reading on any of the 3 pairs then the stator is the fault... Rarely does the coil pack fault without impact or over heat but for the coil pack 0.08 - 0.10
let me know if you need clarification on testing ... Good luck!

2004 Yamaha V-star 650, wont start.

change the coil you may not think it got hot but sometimes a coil can overheat on the inside just enough to break the copper winding. when riding hard slow down for a couple of miles to give everything time to get back to normal temps before shutting it off
