1983 Honda Aspencade 1200 cc no spark to rear cylinder on left side. The other 3 are working as they should, anybody have any suggestions?
Bike has new coils, wires and plugs. Swapping out the coil for a known good one from the other side made no difference. Problem didn't move with the coil.

It operates exactly like an automotive system. DOT 3/4 brake fluid is put into the reservoir on the handle bar left side master cylinder assembly and bled out at the slave cylinder on the round clutch cover on the backside of the motor in front of the rear wheel. Both the master cylinder rebuild kit and the rear slave cylinder kit are available from a Honda if needed. Some times a simple bleeding will fix the problem. If you can not build pressure in the master cylinder , try loosening the banjo bolt and pump the clutch lever until you get fluid pressure causes leaking past the copper washers. Then tighten the banjo bolt on the master cylinder and bleed the slave cylinder. On some Goldwing's the clutch cover can be removed and the clutch plates can be replaced with the engine still in the frame. Unfortunately. the spring towers can easily be broken if you are not extremely careful.
Check your rear brake resevoir. Fill it with Dot 4 brake fluid and proceed to bleed the brakes, If this does not resore your braking and there is no sign of a leak on the rear caliper, you will have to replace the seals in the master cylinder, or the complete cylinder.
Had the same problem on my 1985 GL1200 aspy.
One of the pulse generators had an intermittent error. With time, it became worse. I replace the pulse generator set and problem gone. Pretty difficult to find, especially as I reasoned that 2 cylinders oughtta fire if one pulse generator worked. Wrong assumption. On the 1985, one dead pulse generator means no ignition. So check the spark when it's dead. Did take me a long time to figure out.
Good luck
Per
sounds like over voltage and blown fuses. do not just replace fuses check stator wires on left side and at voltage reg. on left inside of foux tank.melted wires and connecters are common problems.volt reg cost around 225 bucks for the 85 1200
Hello thor67...your wing should hold 300cc's per side. Tip: suggest useing 15wt fork oil instead of the ATF that mother Honda recommends. Hope this helps...ride safe...ride smart.
I have goldwings since 1980. They are very reliable. First thing I would change is the timing belt. (If it fails, bent valves...) As far as the stator, the normal fix for these 4 cylinder early ones (if they are still working) is to cut the 3 wire plug in between the stator & wiring harness & solder the leads together. Dirt, water, corrosion in this connection makes the stator fail. Make sure your carbs are clean and final drive & ft bearings are re-greased. Next problem that occurs that you can check for is oil seal in front forks. You can remove them & put new seals in by yourself if you have the tools. You should have lots more trouble free mileage if bike has been properly maintained. Rick
