2003 Yamaha Drag Star 650. I had an accident and my bike seemed to have lost a small amount of oily fluid. When I went looking for the leak I found a place under the engine where a bolt was missing. It was not the bolt to drain the engine oil. It was a little more to the back of the engine, also on the left side. Behind the lower beam of the frame. Near the fixture of the side stand. The thread of the hole is clean and undamaged. The engine runs fine and no more fluid has leaked since. The engine oil level has not gone down. Does anyone know what this hole/bolt is for?
This could be anything! Could you use the 'Comment' button below with Photos of the bolt hole AND where it is on the bike? This will give more clues as to what it is used for.
is this clear?

Take a good look inside the actual bolt hole. Is it shallow with a dead end? All the way through with daylight on the other side? or deep into the housing it is on? With the bike turned OFF you could use a small piece of wire or a very small screwdriver to test the depth of the hole. If this is a deep hole or a drain hole it would constantly leak fluid and you would hear and feel the engine behaving badly as the fluid level inside drops.
The bolt seems too small to be a drain plug. If the hole is shallow or a dead end it is probably a mounting point for a bolt on accessory or a missing bolt for the cover plate it is next too.
This engine and transmission is used in all the Dragstar and V-star models which use slightly different frames so this could be an Unused mount point for one of the other frame setups.
