2003 Honda Element valve adjustment. ... my car is 2003 Honda Accord EX 2.4L, Do I need to remove the drive belt ?. Read more Show less.Missing: shim
Valves are adjusted by changing the the shims to thicker or thiner ones.
measure all the clearances and write them down, remove the cams and remove the cam buckets of the ones that need adjustment. Note the sizes of the shims removed( it is etched onto them) and replace with different thickness shims to bring them back into tollerence.
Make some marks and notes on the cam timing before removing cams, even take a photo(or that will be your next question) .
valve clearances usually close up( dont get noisy) and valve clearances wont make it smoke, so there may be more maintenance to do, like a cam chain and rings. Im not certain about a yfm, but you posted with a picture of a 2 stroke which doesnt have valves to adjust
first you need to remove everything that covers your valve covers(gas tank etc.) remove the intake valve cover, and the rotor nut and timing plug.set the engine a t.d.c.(top dead center)fit a socket onto the rotor nut and turn it counterclockwise until the"I" mark appears align it with the index mark in the timing hole.use a flat feeler gauge between the top of the valve and the adjuster.loosen the locknut and turn the adjuster just until you feel resistance on the feeler guage.hold the adjuster and tighten the lock nut down.i can not tell you the min.clearance spec to your quad since i have a 660 raptor.try using the smallest clearance number.
IF I recall correctly, the Kawasaki valves are adjusted by shims as opposed to a lock-down screw or hydraulic lifters. The shims come in different thicknesses. As the valve parts wear, a change in shims is how the valves are adjusted.
