I have a 2005 sv650s. It has about 2200 miles on it. I was driving home in the rain the other day and it seems to have lost about 50% power. Strong smell of gas in exhaust. Idle dropped to about 900 on startup. Checked one spark plug and it seems to be ok. Air filter is good. No leaks in the hoses. Any ideas?
Ok...I found a thread somewhere talking about a drainhole on the side of the cylinder that drains the spark plug well. Apparently, this happens a lot and because it faces the front of the bike, dirt and water get into it and drown the spark plug. So I checked mine and sure as shitake, the plug was drowned and the drain hole was clogged with sediment. So I dried it and cleaned it, adjusted the idle, and she runs like a champ now...thanks for the help!Ok...I found a thread somewhere talking about a drainhole on the side of the cylinder that drains the spark plug well. I would have someone check under the front of car while engine was running. Maybe then a gas leak could be spotted. Did he check the charcoal canister-it's a gas vapor collector from the gas tank, and maybe located at front of car. If the canister is full and not working to purge the canister and send the collected fuel and vapors into the engine, it might be what you are smelling.
fuel pressure regulator ! $50.location/top right side engine.smells like gas in cab strong while parked with air /heat on . check this. mine started leeking gas after 60,000 miles. easy fix one star bolt/hose/gasket 15 minutes.
Normally a low gear box oil lvl when the car moves what oil there is goes around the transmition when you idle it all goes to the bottom making it judder
U can go to any autozone, kragen or other chain auto parts stores and they will run the trouble code test for free, let me know what they find if anything, this also may be a fuel pressure problem
