You are probably describing a frozen clutch caused by a long period of disuse - the clutch plates long pressed together under the pressure of strong springs have become frozen together.
Sometimes only dismantling the clutch will cure the problem. Lots of people just keep the revs low and jam it into gear and hope the shock loading will do the trick. A much kinder method is to start the engine with first gear selected and go for a ride - changing gear without the clutch is quite a trick but possible. Keep the clutch lever pulled and by the time the engine is developing high torque in a high gear most clutches would become unfrozen...

Check if timing chain is not loose. If u found the timing chain is loose check your timing if might jumped one tooth of the gear.

this could be a slack cluch cable not disengaging the drive train,, or worst still a bent first gear selector with in the gear box, pricy to fix? dont start stamping on the gear leaver to forse it on gear!!!! you will only snap it off completly but the gear is still there it just hasent gone into gear yet! have you done an iol change lately? did you put the wrong oil in the engine?
ie:to thick??? that would do it too, plus look how old it is???? wear and tear on the box is normal,,,

Could be cam chain rattle. Famous for sloppy chains and inferior tensioners. Starts about 100k and downhill from there. Could try an engine flush as tensioners may be sludged. I have a 4.0L with a rattle at start up but stops after 5 seconds. Chain is shot.
