SOURCE: just replaced clutch spring on '01 vulcan 1500

assuming it was reinstalled properly....try the following. while bleeding the system, squeeze the clutch lever several times to pump up the system as normal; open the bleed screw while holding the clutch lever in and air or fluid comes out. instead of closing the bleed screw hold your finger over the bleed screw and pump up the clutch lever in the normal fashon and bleed by releasing your finger to let the air escape try this several times to see if your clutch comes back. I don't know why but this technique works sometimes...Mike...Make sure you always have plenty of fluid in the resivoir at all times

SOURCE: how do i diagnose a faulty neutral switch?? light

The neutral switch is lockated at the left side of the engine. Should have a blue wire... Comes together with a black wire ( oil pressure switch ) in a 2-position connector to the main harness.
Try if works fine with the blue wire at the ground and loose. If then everything is OK, the neutral switch is out of use.
There is also a diode set in the circuitry. With a green wire coming from the side stand switch, the blue wire from the neutral switch and a lightblue wire going to the dashboard. +12V on this light blue wire should lit up neutral lamp at the dashboard.

Hope it helps.

SOURCE: 1996 vulcan 1500, clutch goes away

If the clutch won't release. The clutch release system uses brake fluid in it. after some time it picks up moisture and when hot gets vapor bubbles in it and the clutch won't release. Flush out the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder with fresh dot3/4 brake fluid.

If the clutch is slipping the clutch spring may be worn in the center. It is a diaphram spring. They wear against the center retainer. The late 1500s and 1600s use a improved center retainer to stop the wear problem.

When I release the clutch starting out it stalls in 1st gear

check your side stand safety switch. if the kick stand is down the engine will shut off. if this switch is stuck then the bike thinks the kick stand is down. clean out the switch.

2008 vulcan 1500 runs great till you start moving then it dies. What would cause this? Again, runs GREAT till you let off the clutch and start rolling.

There is a sensor on the kick/side stand. Check it is not faulty as if the bike thinks it is down, as you release the clutch it will kill the ignition.

My 99 Vulcan classic is slipping in 2nd gear, how costly is that to be repaired. It's a 1500.

New Clutches should be approx 130 and up.
A shop will charge 150 and up to change them.
So $280 and up for that model, and depending on the labor rate.

Shuts down once i let go of the clutch in 1st gear

This is often a problem with the stand switch, unplug the cable and use a multi meter to make sure it switches when you move the stand

My '94 Kawasaki Vulcan will not start with the clutch engaged. It will start in neutral (kick stand is down), but will stall when the clutch is engaged to put the bike in gear.

hi,this might help, without looking at the bike it sounds like either the kickstand switch or the clutch lockout switch has failed, either switch failing will cause the problem you describe as they are both linked in the wiring harness..hope this helps...cheers ian

I have a 1996 Vulcan 88 1500. Cranks but will not start.

Is there gas? Is the petcock on? Are you getting gas to the carbs? Are you getting spark? If yes to all these then you may have timing issues.

I have a Vulcan 1500 that has a problem starting. The starter switch is making contact, and have even gone as far as Jumping the battery, Pulling in the Clutch and Putting up the kick stand....Can anyone...

check battery voltage,if you can jump start off another battery more than likely your battery is not holding a charge, now if your batery is good and the motor turns over slow and drains the battery you could have decompression problem

Starting and once started won't run

The problem seem to involve a number of circuits, I would suspect the Key switch as it supplies power to all affected systems. The dieing on release of the clutch is usually the kickstand safety switch. If the kick stand is not up, and the bike in gear, then when the clutch switch detects release is kills the engine so you don't kill your self.
Check or replace these switches.

Hope this is of some help.

Motor shuts off as soon as I start to accelerate.

Might be a fault in the side stand sensor, you cant go far with the side stand out, or if the sensor has not sensed the stand is up.
