Try disconnecting the kill button on the handlebars. Those old hondas are known for having issues with the kill switches.

I tend to agree with the comment that you might have a short in your Killswitch.

Check your wiring for a short (or an open circuit) on the emergency stop/kill switch. It is an '85, so a wire that has rubbed through the outside protection could have grounded out.

SOURCE: NO SPARK ON A 98 RM 125

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, test for the presence / absence of below described voltages using an analog / needle type voltmeter when starting the bike:

  • pulsating low AC voltage coming from the pickup coil;
  • pulsating voltage feeding the ignition coil.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

There is always some oil in there, it shouldn't be full of oil. But there will be a small amount.
Although this isn't for your bike it gives trouble shooting options for a CDi system.

SOURCE: No Spark, No Power coming from CDI to coil

Check the wiring on the connector plugs make sure all the wires are the same color on both sides, red to red blue to blue and so on. I had the same problem After replacing a stator and just plugging it in,after two weeks a new cdi and coil i noticed there were two wires transposed.

TVS scooty pep plus not starting, changed with new new battery & new spark plug - no spark coming (I have tested the spark plug connected outside touching scooty metal body & start-kicking)

Possibly a bad ignition coil. Check the connections at the ignition coil, make sure they are clean and tight, If so,..then most likely either A: the ignition coil is bad,or B: the pickup on the stator rotor is bad or the rotor could be rusted on the raised portion where the pickup get its signal.

I have a 1985 honda big red and the first pull u get spark then after that u loose it but wait ten minutes and it will have it again one time only , what should i check ?

Had similar problem with a 125cc scooter I worked on. First crank of the engine showed spark on first compression and wouldn't spark anymore until you would wait 10-15 minutes. Then it would give only one spark again.

Found it to be a faulty CDI box.

You can't test or repair a CDI box, only replace it. Electrical parts that are purchased, cannot be returned so, you need to be sure it's not the pickup coil, pulse coil, secondary coil, plug wire, plug cap and spark plug itself before you purchase a box. By checking the specific resistances with a ohm meter on the previous mentioned components, will help determine if it's the box or not. Hope this helps!

1977 dt 175 e and i can't get it to fire i put a new coil and still no spark

My old 73 175 had points, I don't know if yours does. There is also the stator/ magneto. Try disconnecting the kill switch or unplug the key cylinder. There is a more detailed check in the manual. I can't find my old 175 manual but ttr125 says 1) check plug for spark- clean or replace. 2) check entire ignition system for connection. 3) check ignition stop switch. 4) check coil. a- primary coil, b- secondary coil. 5)check cdi coil. a-pickup coil. b- charging coil. Since you have replaced the coil I will only give specs for the cdi check. The picture shows a plug under the tank disconnected. It has four wires brn grn red and wht. To check pick up coil resistance set ohm meter to x 100. attach the plus lead to red and neg. lead to white. It seems to have a short wire in each jaw of the alligator clips of ohmmeter that is pushed into the disconnected plug that contacts appropriate wire color. Reading should be 248 to 372 ohm at 20 degrees C (68 degrees F). Charge coil test places the plus lead of ohmmeter to the brown wire and neg. lead to the green wire of the open plug. Meter at x 100. Reading should be 688 to 1032 ohm at 20degrees C. Of course while doing step 2 check for good grounds and tight connection at plug cap and use a new plug. Good luck.

Hi i have a 1997 yamaha 350 warrior i have no spark to the spark plug what could be

hello, you probably need to have your stator checked out, sometimes the pickup coil in the stator will go out, also you can try ign coil, the one spark plug wire is hooked to,warriors are bad about cdi going out, mine would idle, would not rev up, would bog down, source coil in stator probably needs to be checked also..

Hi i have an 05 crf150f it wil not get spark at all i have replaced my coil, wiring harness but my stator is getting spark. i think it might be the rev box (cdi)please help me i am tired of fixing it over...

well the stator doesn't give spark it give voltage and if you test it and the is voltage and you have replaced all that stuff with good ones then it is your cdi box.

to test the stator for voltage take a multimeter on the ac scale and test the output of the stator while kicking the bike over if you have voltage rising and falling then your stator is fine. if not you will need to test the pick coil in the stator area for a ground pulse this is what the cdi box uses as a reference for the position of crank shaft and piston. just like a crank sensor in a car. if there is ground pulse there when you back probe the wires coming out of the pick up then your cdi is for sure the issue. if you have any more question please ask. good luck

Fresh rebuild now no spark

If it ran before, I would double check your electrical connections. Its more likely you didn't get a connector pushed all the way together or left off a ground wire. The ignition coil specs are generally 1 ohm or less on the primary (small Wire) side, and 5K-10K ohms on the secondary (spark plug) side. Each side should be tested to ground. Pick-up coils are typically open or really large ohm reading in Megaohms normally and around 100 ohms when the magnet on the flywheel passes by. there is no way to test the CDI box other than putting it on a know running bike or getting a known good CDI and putting it on your bike. Double check that the spark plug cap is secured to the high tension lead as well. Testing the stator is a little more complicated, but a quick way is to close the gap on an old spark plug to about 0.010" and see if there is a week spark. If so, the stator will need to be replaced.

How to trouble shoot just the cdi unit on a yahama yfb250e--1993

Yamaha ignition coils never go bad. It is probably the Stator/ Pulser coil (very common). You can check them with a ohm meter. You'll need the readings from a Yamaha dealership. The CDI box is very seldom bad But there is no checks that can be done on it. If everything else is fine ---than Yamaha says it must be the CDI box.(Rare)
