WHEN IN SECOND , IT FEELS LIKE IT GOES IN AND OUT OF GEAR

WHEN I ROMP ON IT IN SECOND GEAR IT FEELS LIKE IT GOES IN AND OUT OF GEAR , WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM?

  • jsnellenburg Aug 20, 2009

I HAVE AN 05 I BOUGHT YESTERDAY, WHEN I PUT IT IN SECOND GEAR AND OPEN UP THE THROTTLE AT ABOUT 5000RPM IT JERKS IN AND OUT OF GEAR, THE CLUTCH DONT SLIP THOUGH, AND ITS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET IT IN NEUTRAL TOO

possibly the clutch needs replacement, from term Romp, i wonder if it has a performance clutch installed. cause when you use excessive motor force to engage the clutch you cause wear between the pressure plates, i assume the clutch is bad. this is not a very expensive or complex repair

If problem only persists in second gear, I would think the problem's not in the clutch but in the trans itself. Possible bent shift forks. common to throw 2nd gear on busa's

Could well be faulty shift solenoid. Very common problem. Drop trans pan and have a look. You may well find a solenoid has come apart.

92 buick lesabre 97000 miles, on slow acceleration, @ 40mph going into 4th gear there is a mild chutter, same @ 50mph going into OD mild chutter and when down shifting from OD to 4th. All is when slow...

This sounds like a vacuum leak prob. At low acceleration there isn't quite enough vacuum for smooth shift.. But romp on it and it creates a vacuum at the same rate as your gas is getting sucked.

When driving at 15 miles, the car is usually on second gear, when pressing the gas pedal, one of 3 things happen, it easier feels as a little jump occured, or an increase in RPM, that settles down shortly...

I would suggest a service of the automatic transmission where the filter will be cleaned, bands tightened and new transmission fluid put in. the autotransmission is often forgotten about in our car servicing.

When was the last time you replaced the filter and fluid on it. Most tranny problems are due to dirty filters and burnt traany oil

More likely it is a slightly bent shift fork not fully engaging into second. The clutch and bearings are not suspect. Remove your foot from the shift lever then go full throttle in 2nd. Those new riding boots may be doing the magic unconsciously. Adjust the shift lever height if that is the problem.
