Question about Suzuki Motorcycles

2003 suzuki katana. I put a brand new battery in it but it wont start. I can connect jumper cables and it will start in second gear but nothing else. It runs fine afterwards. It shifts fine but it doesnt start in neutral anymore. Help please

You need to check the Main Fuse. If you don't have anything - no light, No dash lights then is got to be the main fuse.

I would inspect the shifter linkage and maybe check the belt for damage.A little wd40 might help.

some models need the clutch in (even in neutral) to start, Check if there is a small micro switch under the clutch and check it works with a multi meter

if you follow your positive battery cable from the battery it will lead you to the starter relay. in the starter relay there is a 30 amp main fuse. check that main fuse and replace. if nothing still comes on, there's a good chance you fried yor computer.

Make sure kill switch is OFF first, then check if there are nay Neg loose cables. especially in the starter motor connection. Good?

Sounds like the battery has lost its capacity, also if you have the kickstand down when you put it into gear the engine will shut off. Try this, put jumper cables on the battery, hook it up to a car that is running, start the bike, put the kickstand up while holding the bike up and holding the clutch in, put it in gear. If it continues to run, disconnect the cables and see if it stalls. If it does, you need a new battery! Please rate this as helpful if it was.
