Question about 1997 kawasaki VN 750 Vulcan
Hello my 97 Kawasaki Vulcan 750 won't pass 3rd gear, starts slowing down after 4000 rpm, did an oil change, adjusted throttle, cleaned the carburetor but it's still acting up as such any ideas? @

1. Dirty or clogged air filter.
2. Faulty spark plug.
3. Bad Gas.
4. Improper oil level.
5. Improper chain adjustment and lubrication.
6. Low tire pressure.
7. Dirty or contaminated carburetor needs cleaning and tuning.
8. Clogged or faulty fuel pump or injectors.
9. Improper valve adjustment.
10. Slipping clutch.
11. Improper timing.
12. Low compression.

If the bike is reving high in top gear but you are not gaining speed or very little speed your clutch is slipping. This is a sign the clutch needs replaced.

Firstly run your engine till you reach its normal running temp .The engine drain plug will be found under neath the engine normally at the lowest part .Warm oil drains out of the engine much more quickly that cold oil ..when all the oil stops dripping then remove the oil filter ,make sure that the sealing ring is removed ,take care the oil in the filter will be very hot .replace with your new filter make sure you do not cross thread the oil filter unit and any seals have been fitted . Refit your drain plug and fill up to the required level . start engine ,your oil level will drop because the oil filter will fill up and the new oil will be pumped around the engine. make sure that the engine level is topped up when all the oil has reached all the parts of the engine .Do not over fill the engine as this will cause unwanted pressure .and oil leaks .Remember to replace the oil filler cap and that its tight .

My bike would run but once in gear it sounded like no gas was getting in and it would die out.
There is a nipple located on the lower left side of the Carb. It takes a Hex to twist it or a needle nose plier. Turn it and the bad gas from the carb will leak out. Usually water and dirt. I put a plastic bottle under the nipple until it stops, usually 1 oz comes out. Or you can get the card cleaned for $300.
