Your experience is the reason for the rules taught to every apprentice - don't muck about with the battery terminals with a running engine and always fit the ground terminal last and remove it first when connecting/disconnecting the battery.
As a young fellow I managed to short the positive terminal to ground with my steel watch strap. Onlookers must have thought me crazy as I danced around trying to rid myself of a red-hot watch. I learned my lesson the hard way.
You probably caused a voltage surge - shorting the positive terminal would have made the voltage seen by the regulator go down like a stone and the regulator would try and compensate so when the wrench or whatever stopped shorting it there would be a momentary surge until the regulator regained control. As the engine was only idling the surge wouldn't be huge but it would seem it was enough to damage some semiconductors.
A car 12 volt alternator under the same condition with the engine running at fast idle can produce a surge of around 80 volts - enough to wipe out every semiconductor on the vehicle and render it economically unviable to repair.

SOURCE: Instrument Cluster needles stuck -- Electrical Problems
Needles stuck indicative of instrument cluster complete failure. Cause unknown. This is second instrument cluster that has failed on this bike, first one failed at about 3000 miles, twenty-two months ago. This "new" one died in mid May 2008. Received word from Ducati North America that they will accept the warranty claim for the toasted instrument cluster!!! Am still concerned about cause...this is second instrument cluster for this S2R800. Seems to be an issue prevalent on some of these late model Monsters. Will update more after instrument cluster gets in and replaced by Bloodworth Ducati in Nashville.
SOURCE: brake adjustment promax aluminum linear pull
assuming the wheel is centered in the frame and all is working well, the pressure springs need to be adjusted. using the pressure screws (small screw sticking out of thr side of the brake) you can adjust the return pressure of each side. Loosen the screw on the side that is moving a quarter turn, tighten the screw on the side that does not move. squeeze the brake lever, check operation, continue until the brakes work equally.

i would be looking at the voltage regulator,if the regulator is faulty the alternator will not be replacing the voltage that the bike needs to keep running

Can be the Photocell {eye} at the back of the burner or the inline fuel filter.Photocells are easy to replace and when you install the new one make sure it's aiming straight to the flame.Inline filter can be cleaned by using forced air,but not recommended.Filters are cheap. If none of that works check the air pressure at the pump, rear of machine, little plastic pipe plug.4 to 5 P.S.I
