When i press the ignition switch in i hear a tick but bike will not turn over. The stand is up and the engine cut out is in the on Position. I can bump start the bike but it will not start using the switch. I have replaced the battery and acording to the bike its reading fine.
The battery is brand new and i have checked it is in full working order. But i think the starter may be missing. I have some loose wiring that looks like it should connect to the starter relay but i cant seem to find the actual relay. Are these easily dislodged? The battery is brand new and i have checked it is in full working order. But i think the starter may be missing. Re: When i press the ignition switch in i hear a tick but...
Hi i have a problem with my bike it is an 2001 aprilia rs 125cc. When i press the ignition button i hear a clicking noise coming from what i think is the starter relay? ( located at the front of my bike, behind the radiator ) and the starter motor wont spin or even try to crank the engine. i have also tried 2 bump / jump start the bike but still no start :( i think the battery is fine though as the lights work when ignition is on. can any1 help me with this problem? any suggestions and help appreciated thanks :)
Re: When i press the ignition switch in i hear a tick but...
This is usually a weak battery, dirty battery connections or both. In some cases the solenoid for the starter is bad requiring the starter to be serviced or replaced.
Re: When i press the ignition switch in i hear a tick but...
Disconnect the 2 cables on the starter relay and touch them together. This should make the starter turn and may even start the engine if the ignition is on. Be careful though, one of the cables is connected directly to the battery so don't let it touch the frame and only connect the 2 cables momentarily or you could burn out the starter motor wiring. If it turns over then the relay is at fault and needs replacing.
Re: When i press the ignition switch in i hear a tick but...
Hi mate this happened to me and you just need a new startor motor, One of the wires in the startor motor has blown so just buy a new one. There around £30-£40.

With the newer HD Security Systems using proximity FOBs where the key FOB needs to be close to the bike to start, this is now more important then ever. If the battery in your FOB dies and you have not set your Harley Alram Override PIN Code, you will not be starting your bike. It is just as important for those with oler Harley Davidsons with the push button alarm FOB. It you set your alarm and the battery dies before you return to your bike, again you will not be starting the bike.
If you haven't set the PIN over ride for your HD security alarm system...do it now! Here's how you do it...

The usual reasons the fob doesn't disarm the security system is: 1) a damaged fob 2) discharged fob battery (Panasonic 2032 or equivalent) 3)electromagnetic interference a. verify the fob in not in a metal enclosure or within 3" of any other electronic device. b. place the fob on the seat, start motor and return fob to pocket. c. move the bike at least 15' from the spot of interference. With the Fob near the bike, try disabling the security system.

OK so here is your solution. from your dealer when you purchased your bike with the alarm system you were given a 5 digit pin number. in order to turn it off manually you need to unlock (if locked) the switch, turn it to accessory. push both left and right blinker buttons in with the left blinker button is you "digits" so if (ex 56726) push the left button five times to go to the next button push the right blinker one time then left six times the right blinker one time and left blinker seven times then right two times right once left six times and right once. this will turn off the alarm
to program the fob you need to turn the ignition switch in a sequence of on off on off on with the blinker buttons you push left left right left and your signals will flash the hazards twice push and hold the fob button till the hazards blink three times and you have just programed your fob push and hold your fob to set alarm and double click to disarm your alarm
You'll need the PIN number. If you don't know it, you'll have to change it to a 5 digit PIN number you select.
With the fob present, turn IGN switch: IGNITION-OFF-IGNITION-OFF-IGNITION Press LEFT turn signal switch 3 TIMES Press RIGHT turn signal switch 1 TIME and release Turn signals will flash 3 times. Current PIN will appear in odometer. The first digit will be flashing.

The battery is brand new and i have checked it is in full working order. But i think the starter may be missing. I have some loose wiring that looks like it should connect to the starter relay but i cant seem to find the actual relay. Are these easily dislodged?
