SOURCE: how to lower the idle on a 2002 yamaha 650 v-star classic?

under the left side of the gas tank you will see i black knob/screw at the end of what looks like a hose. the knob faces the rear of bike. that adjusts the idle. its real easy to find and the only adjustment you can make to the carbs.

Why would i be reading a dead short to the starter.

there will be power from the battery terminal to one terminal of the starter
the other terminal circuit is through the field windings and armature windings to ground
there will be a small wire that has power from the starter switch to energize the starter solenoid to complete the circuit for the battery

Starter relay is clicking and not turning over the bike. I put a new battery in it and still the same problem. I did notice there is a smaller ground wire coming off the ground post of the battery with the...

Your solenoid clicks when you push the starter button, therefore the starter button is good. Jump the two terminal posts on the starter solenoid together, This will send power directly to your starter. If your starter now works you have a bad starter solenoid. Next, hold the starter button and tap on the starter with a plastic hammer, if the starter works now you have bad starter brushes. If something is burnt or damaged inside the starter causing it not to work you will have to replace the starter assembly since the internal parts are not available from Yamaha (except for the brushes).
