Question about 2001 Yamaha XVS 650 Dragstar Classic

Open Question

2001 Yamaha XVS 650 Dragstar Classic runs fine then bogs

I have a modified XVS 650. The bike starts and runs fine for a few minutes. Then it bogs down and dies. It starts it back up w/ choke, pops and sputters a minute then kicks in and it's fine. this only happens intermittently. Sometimes the bike runs fine. Sometimes this happens 2-3 times in a 5-mile ride. The airbox has been eliminated and the intake is directly into the carbs. @

2001 Yamaha XSV 650 starts a whining noise bi top gear???

Give the bike a service. In general, people that ask questions about weird noises in an engine have not looked after their vehicle. A motorbike has a more refined engine than a car. It revs higher and so needs to be looked after more often to keep it running at peak efficiency.

My bike hasnt been ridden for a few months, and you need to give it full choke to start and keep it going, it wont idle when the choke is depressed, It is A Vstar 650 Classic

was fuel left in the carburetors when you parked it your metering jets might be slightly clogged with varnish i dont recomend opening them yourself take it to a professional and next time you park it for an extended period of time close the fuel valve and leave the bike running until the carbs run out of gas "the bike will stop running when this happens"

02 Yamaha xvs 650 dragstar classic that misfires when it warms up

First I would change all the spark plugs, and if that didn't make a difference then it sounds like the coil(s) are warming up and breaking down........when it starts to skip take a good pair of pliers with good rubber on them and pull each spark plug wire, when you get to the one that the running doesn't change then I would replace that particular coil

I want to put a bigger motor in my xvs 650 classic, how big of engine can i put?

you can put any engine you want in this frame as long as your fabrication skills are very good and your not scared to have the bike fall apart from the stress of too much power or torque

Battery replacement and parts for Yamaha Dragstar XVS 400

Hi there,

the best battery replacement for your bike would be a low-maintenance sealed battery. Sealed types last longer but they are expensive. XVS650 is a fit but make sure you specify if its either a custom or a classic, they get confused by these.

I"d recommend the linbar by lindby customs for the engine guard. THey're practical.

Hope this helps,

Can't find oil filter on 2005 650 XVS Dragstar Classic?

on right crankcase by brake pedal you will find a round cover with 3 bolts in it, remove this and you will find some more bolts to remove the second casing that holds the oil filter, be careful not to over tighten the bolts when putting back, i did and stripped the thread, complete change takes about 15 mins
