1994 Yamaha Waverunner 3 will idle but wont take throttle

Hello, My 1994 Yamaha Waverunner 3 will idle but wont take throttle. It overheated when I pulled sand into exhoust. I cleaned exhaust out and took it out and it ran fine for 2 hours, now it will not take throttle. I have changed fuel lines, filter, rebuilt carb, rechecked rebuild, and still no change. Question: can the thermo switch have gone bad from overheat and be sending bad reading causing limiter to kick in. If so how can I check thermo unit to see if that is problem, It is an expensive part to change without being sure. Thanks, Don

Switch to reserve tanke to check to see if there is a clog at the fuel pickup in the tank.
My friend had the same issue with his waverunner 3.

Yamaha waverunner 1200RECENtly purchased wave runner took out for 4 mile trip ran great took in for evening done inspection and realized it didnt have oil pump only a plate were it should be. so i put some...

The first thing to check would be the compression. As long as both cylinders are with in 10 psi of each other you should be okay. Both cylinders need to be at least 100 psi. That would be the minimum for a motor to start and run. It should read aprox- 150 -- 165 psi. Also i would check for a possible exhaust leak, that would cause the motor to bog down because the carb is breathing in the exhaust fumes. Try running the motor with the hood up to see if you have a leak.

Yamaha xl1200 waverunner losses power after it is warmed up.

Hi, most likely cause and the easiest to check is exhaust leaking in the engine compartment. Run it without the seat fitted for the same time frame and if it fixes your problem you are looking for an exhaust leak. Regards Phil.

1995 Yamaha Waverunner III dies won't run

Check cylinder compressions, this ski will overheat if one side is low. Thus is step one, if ok and within 10% of each other, verify the exhaust isn't clogged with sand from "beaching" third verify the crank seals are not leaning the Mix causing an overheat. Obviously check the impeller housing to exhaust line isnt clogged, disconnecting the thermal sensor is asking for a top end rebuild which is about 500.00 they are designed to reduce revs and alternate spark to the cylinders once 200 degrees is reached.

THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN OUT YOUR INGINE AND HOSES IS TO HOOK UP THE FLUSH HOSE TO THE SIDE OF THE WATERCRAFT ,,,,IF YOU DONT HAVE THE ADAPTER CONECTION HOSE YOU WILL NEED TO GET ONE ITS A VERRY IMPORTENT PART OF MANTENACE ,,,,YOU NEED TO FLUSH IT OUT EVERY TIME YOU TAKE IT OUT OF THE WATER TO KEEP ALL THE SAND FROM BUILDING UP IN YOUR COOLING SYSTEM,, AND TO GET ALL SALTWATER OUT THE SALTWATER WILL EAT AWAY THE HEAD LITTLE BY LITTLE,,PLEASE NOTE SOME MODELS HAVE A HOOKUP IN THE VERRY BACK WHERE YOU CAN HOOK A REGALAR WATER HOSE TO,,,HOPE THIS HELPS.
