How do you get to the handbrake switch on a Suzuki GN 250 1983 model? @
SOURCE: replace rear brakes adjust handbrake
The hand brake hardly ever needs ajusting. See your hand brake mechanincly spreads your rear brake shose inside the drum. Therefore just replace your rear shoes and make sure there ajusted right and you should have no more problems with that part of your car. PS make sure you put some 3M paste on the contact points on your backing plate to avoid a squeak in the near future.

Check the wiring connections to the front brake switch. If all OK, then it could be the switch.

It will not necessarily hurt anything but it is not quite right. Be sure th shut off the gas when not riding the bike. Check and be sure the gas valve is shutting off the gas fully.

SOURCE: where are the valve timing marks for suzuki gn 250
There is an engraved line on inner band of the camshaft sprocket. This should line up horizontally with upper edge of camshaft cup on the HEAD. Ensure crank is at top dead centre by aligning "T" with centre of magneto cover inspection hole. (the 17mm bolt) Pull chain up tight and feed on from front of sprocket, then screw in tensioner bolts to torque. Cheers.
