2002 Yamaha Road Star Warrior transmission will not engage

Have a Yamaha Road Star 1700 shifts into go but will not move or engage. Sounds like it does but transmission does not move the bike.

Hi,
The first thing you need to check is the air filter. Sometimes critters can get into the airbox when a bike sits for awhile. Sounds crazy, but it has happened to me. If nothing is blocking the filter, give it a quick clean since you have it out.
Next things to check:
Faulty diaphragm
Improperly adjusted fuel level
Clogged or loose main jet
Faulty fuel pump
You may not be able to check these on your own, but these are the next likely culprits.
Hope this helped

First thing to do is to check the shifter pawl adjustment. If you do not have a service manual then you need to get one. It will explain how to adjust shifter pawl and save you money on many other problems down the road.
