Hello, I'd check for a short along the wire to the frame. Also, it's rare that the starter solenoid could be shorted. Use a multimeter on ohms to ring out the wire(s) that activate the solenoid. There should be low resistance for the solenoid, but it should not be zero or .1 ohms.
If you follow the positive battery cable to the starter solenoid relay and/or look around your battery storage area you should see somewhere either as part of a small bank or actually on the starter solenoid relay itself - a fuse. Usually the same as most cars take - not the very small square fuses the newer vehicles use, but a normal square fuse. If you pull that out and check it - you may have just blown a fuse. - actually yours may be a little farther away. 7 & 9 are your main fuses. No light/no crank - you should definitely check those fuses. If that's no the issue just comment or reach out and I'll go further with you. All The Best, Justin Lee, 17 South Industries, LLC
It sounds like if usable link that has failed. Check the fuse links and it should be ok, make sure the battery has a full 12 volts in it before you do anything as it might be faulty, cheers hope this helps
I have had the same problem on my RF 900. The problem was a loose fuse in-between the starting switch and starting relay. The fuse is up near the forks on a Yellow and green wire. First check batt voltage, then check kill switch, starter, inline fuse mentioned above then YG feed to Fuel pump. If all good check starter relay 30 amp fuse. If you have no power at Kill switch then check neutral light is on
Check your ground at the starter... you may have loosened it or broke the wire... also check the cylinode located under the seat.. You might have jiggled the wire loose.
Hello Camron, i would not recommend the hot wire procedure. If you spike the controller it could do a lot of damage. Plus the stator & rectifier are not working properly. You can replace the ignition switch, that comes with 2 new keys cheaper than a locksmith will make one, in most cases. Here are a couple of links for ignition switches that will fit your bike. I hope this helps.
