Many of the Japanese and Chinese vehicles have speedometers that measure speed and distance in kilometers not miles. If your unit measures kilometers and you compare it to something measuring in miles, it your KPH would be higher than the MPH. Drive a measured mile and see if your distance was a mile or more that a mile. If more than a mile, you have a KM speedometer. Does the face of your speedometer have a MPH or KM on it?
It needs to be calibrated, you can't do that at home.
