2004 YAMAHA YFZ 450 Quad POPS OVERHEATS BREAKS UP AT HIGH RPM.

Question edited for full 'year make model (what it is).
Question moved from motorcycles to make model category.
Please don't type in all CAPS, it is considered SHOUTING and is harder to read.

'clips' and 'turns' it took me a while to realise you were talking about the carburetor and you were playing with the mixture screw and needle position! 4 turns out is a lot different to the factory setting which is 1 1/2 turns out.

If it is overheating it is running too lean. As you changed the stator, also consider the ignition timing. Popping can also be caused by the ignition failing under load, coil, lead and spark plug.

I have a 2004 Yamaha YFZ 450 the bike will start and drive but as soon as it warms up when you push the throttle it starts to cut out... What is the problem?

There is not really enough info in your post to narrow down the problem. Hesitation during acceleration can either be fuel related or ignition timing related. Once up to speed, will it maintain that speed smoothly?

If you have a timing light, check the timing at idle. If it is OK, then it is probably fuel related.

Assuming you have not messed with the ignition timing, if it idles, but won't accelerate, it is probably starved for fuel. 1.Check/change the fuel filter- easy and cheap
2. pull the fuel line off the carb, and make sure fuel flows from the tank freely.
3. If there is good fuel flow to the carbs, pull the carbs and clean them.

2003 Honda VT 750 C2 Shadow carburetor adjustment

Let's focus on adjusting the air/fuel mixture. This adjustment can help balance the fuel-to-air ratio for both cylinders. Here are the steps you can follow:

Idle Screw (Air/Fuel Mix):
The idle screw, also known as the pilot screw, adjusts the air/fuel mixture at idle. It affects the fuel flow from the pilot jets (idle jets) into the carburetors.
Locate the idle screw on your carburetor. It's usually a small black knob near the choke.
Turn the idle screw to achieve the desired idle speed. Listen to how the bike sounds while adjusting it.
Note: Adjusting the idle screw shouldn't significantly affect the mixture setting.

Pilot Screw (Idle Mixture):
The pilot screw (idle mixture screw) fine-tunes the air/fuel mixture from idle rpm up to about 1/8th throttle.
To access the pilot screws, you may need to remove the air box and carb side cover.
The factory default setting for the pilot screws is typically 2.5 turns out.
Carefully screw each one in until it lightly seats closed, and then count the number of turns.
You can adjust the pilot screws to make the mixture richer (more turns out) or leaner (less than 2.5 turns).

Dual Carburetor Sync:
Since your bike has dual carburetors, it's essential to ensure they are synchronized.
Use a vacuum gauge set to synchronize the carbs. Adjust the linkage screw until both throttle butterflies are in the same position for idle2.
Synchronization helps maintain consistent performance between the front and rear cylinders.

Check Rear Cylinder Idle:
If the rear cylinder isn't running correctly at idle, it could be due to a partially plugged idle jet.

Consider cleaning the carburetors if needed. While it can be a bit of work, it's essential for proper performance.
If the issue persists, consult a mechanic or consider opening up the carburetor for a thorough inspection.

Remember to take your time and make gradual adjustments. If you're unsure, consult your bike's service manual or seek professional assistance.

Ho do the fule lines hook up to the carbrator

How do the fuel lines hook up to the carburetor, huh? Well...it's not too complicated. Small diameter line coming out of fuel tank goes directly to the carb on the fuel pump end..(end opposite the one with hole in the cover). The larger line coming out of the fuel tank goes to the longer nipple on the purge/primer bulb. The other line coming off of the carburetor (on the end with the hole in the cover) goes to the shorter nipple on the purge/primer bulb. The purge bulb "pulls" air and old fuel out of the carb thus allowing fresh fuel to flow in from the fuel tank and then it "pushes" this mixture of air/old fuel back to the fuel tank.

Carburetor adjustments yamaha 450yfz 2004

Turn both the air screw and throttle screw inward until they LIGHTLY seat. Now back each one outward one and one half turns. This is the factory setting. I am going to give you a web site where you can download a free PDF factory service manual for a YZ450FR. I believe the model is a bit different but the carbs are the same.

Go to this site and you can download a free PDF service manual. The site may take up to 25 seconds to fully load the list of manuals. It is worth the wait. www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp The service procedures are there in detail and a lot of diagrams and photos. Don't mess with the pilot screw unless you have to, Part #11 in the diagram.
