My 02 GMC Yukon 5.3 Ltr flex fuel won't crank if the fuel is less than half a tank. Do I need a fuel pump. Carmax said that it was nothing but it was doing this since I purchased in 2007. Please help...

There is a hose from the fuel pump to the bottom of the sender unit. You can replace it, but it isn't any fun. You have to empty the fuel, drop the tank, pull the sender out, take the sender apart. Cut the flex hose off, replace it with fuel line hose only. The clamps will be hard to get on and adjusted. I have done it myself and kids. But not for anyone else. Cheaper to buy the unit.

Where is the fuel pump Sender units 1997 s10 pickup ?

In the fuel tank. You will have to drop the fuel tank to gain access...the "sender" is located on the top of the tank.

Gas gauge goes up to full and after a bit, down to total empty. What is causing it to do that?

Hello hawky 32: My name is Roger and I will help with your answer. The most likely culprit is the fuel sender unit in the fuel tank. This is replicable but requires the removal of the fuel tank in order to replace the unit. Also when the fuel pump module is replaced you will also have a new sender unit with the pump. You might want to investigate the cost of the sender for the fuel Gage verses the fuel pump module. The fuel pump unit you can buy at the parts store. The sender unit is most likely a dealer item only. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Location of and how to remove and replace - 2002 DeVille Sending Unit/Fuel Pump Module (4.6L engine)

These units are in the tank and must be dropped in order to replace.

WARNING Do not handle the fuel sender assembly by the fuel pipes. The amount of leverage generated by handling the fuel pipes could damage the joints.

  1. Relieve the fuel system fuel pressure, as outlined in the Fuel System Section.
  2. Drain the fuel tank to at most 3/4 of a tank full.
  3. Raise the vehicle.
  4. Remove the fuel tank.
NOTE The modular fuel sender support assembly will spring-up when the locking ring is moved.
  5. Remove the fuel sender assembly using tool J39765 Fuel Sender Locknut Wrench or an equivalent.
  6. Note the position of the fuel sender strainer for installation.
  7. Support the reservoir with one hand and grasp the fuel sender strainer with the other hand.
  8. Pull the external fuel sender strainer off of the fuel sender.
  9. Inspect the fuel sender strainer. If the fuel sender strainer is contaminated, the fuel tank should be cleaned.
  10. Discard the fuel sender strainer after inspection.
  11. Disassemble the electrical connectors from the fuel level sensor assembly of the fuel pump and cover assembly.
  12. Disassemble the fuel level sensor assembly.

  3. Position the new fuel sender strainer on the modular fuel sender and push on the outer edge of the fuel sender strainer until the fuel sender strainer is fully seated on to the sender assembly.
  4. Install the fuel sender assembly into the fuel tank using tool J39765 Fuel Sender Locknut Wrench or an equivalent.
  5. Reinstall the fuel tank.
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Add fuel to the fuel tank.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.
  9. Reinstall the fuel tank filler pipe cap.
  10. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  11. Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds.
  12. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 5 seconds.
  13. Turn the ignition switch ON .
  14. Check for fuel leaks.

WRONG FUEL READING

Yes, to get a replacement fuel float, you will have to buy a new pump assembly. Or go to a junkyard and pull one. However, fuel floats, are really prone to becoming stuck due to physical displacement (tipped up too high and stuck on something, obvious solution ) and residue from old gasoline as it decays. (which is basicly solidified varnish, and is quite sticky, but can be cleaned off with petrol products: more gas, paint thinner, etc...)
If you decide to replace it, remember to inspect the part carefully beforehand, which can quite often save you a return trip to the store for the correct part.

1997 blazer fuel gauge is not working,

VERY COMMON GM problem . the sending unit in the tank is faulty. You are usually better off replacing the whole fuel pump module assy as opposed to only the sender because you can damn near buy the whole assy cheaper than you can buy the sender only for at the dealer which is where you will have to buy the sender if you only want to replace it and not the whole "She-bang".
