Question about 2013 KTM XC 500 W
I'd start by making sure the air filter is clean and then get any info available regarding valve cam clearances. Depending on the hours and milage on the machine there may be the need for some maintenance.

Testimonial: "Hi Ted. Regards from Namibia / Southern Africa. Thanx for your advice. Trying to be a perfectionist, may I say, all the Basic maintance like air filter clean, Throttle Body Filter taken out already etc are done. Tell me about the fuel tank, is there a filter inside aswell...?"
And Good Day from Vancouver Island Canada.
Motorcycles rarely (Never that I know of) have a filter inside the gas tank. It is not uncommon for there to be contaminants (rust, water) inside the tank. Fast test is to shut off fuel valve, disconnect fuel line, hold glass or plastic container to catch fuel, turn valve on and get fuel sample, valve off so you don't spill, then check the fuel. if it is clean and flowing freely, that will not be the problem.
Afterthought:
I have a KLR650 and a grandson in Johannesburg.
Would bringing riding a similar machine there be a realistic adventure?
