sounds like the starter solonoid is not working properly if the batt cable got hot enough to smoke that says the batt, is ok and it is ok to jump with car, the solonoid is making the clicking noise and a real hot batt sometimes will make it work, the repair is simple and cheap if you are talented just get a solonoid repair kit three screws 5 min, and you are RIDEING.

SOURCE: Honda Deauville will not start.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The click is significant. It indicates that the starting relay is engaging but for some reason, the starter motor is not cranking. This could either be a faulty starter relay (particularly the contacts) or a faulty starter motor (specifically, the carbon brushes). To determine which:

  • with the side covers off, expose the starter relay particularly the 2 large terminals;
  • have somebody start the bike normally using the key and button start switch;
  • determine if indeed the clicking is coming from the starter relay;
  • while the start button is still pressed, jump the 2 big terminals;
  • if the engine cranks, then the internal contacts of the starter relay are corroded or burned;
  • if the engine will not crank, then the starter motor is faulty or it can not turn the engine..
A few additional ideas:
  • externally charge the battery;
  • drain the tank and carbs of stale fuel;
  • refill with fresh fuel;
  • remove the plugs, center stand the bike, engage 1st gear, rotate rear wheel to exercise engine.
  • Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Testimonial: "Sorry for not getting back sooner. I got a replacement relay (used) and fit a new battery all in order thank you. "

SOURCE: Starting Issue for my 1982 Honda GL1100 Aspencade

glad to hear it was only the battery.

when you buy one (either from a store or online), be sure to trickle charge it completely BEFORE using it on the bike. gotta start with a fully charged battery or it will never perform properly in the future.

online stores will sell you "dry" batteries so you'll have to buy some acid at your local auto parts store. if you get it from a store, it should come "wet". both will need a charge first.

2 years is about right for a lead-acid battery especially the lower end units. if you go with a yuasa brand, expect additional 1 to 2 years.

glad i could help. enjoy that classic!

SOURCE: When attempting to start the bike, it will only

You will have to check the starter motor , but have you tried to by pass the soleniod switch?, try to do so by connecting the two points at the solenoid, if the starter truns thn its the solenoid switch which is faulty ..if it doesnt still turn, thn you will have to remove the starter and overhaul it.
Hope this helps!

Where's the flasher located on 1995 fxd dyna

Sorry I do not go back that far. If it has a TSM it will be in there. Otherwsie on a DYNA I would expect a flasher to be in or near the electrical caddy under the left side cover.

2007 fxd dyna superglide started running rough after the engine light turned on. makes a loud hissing noise near the fuel tank

The hissing........do this once. turn the bike to the "on" position. Dont start the bike, just turn ity so you can hear the fuel pump engage. After the pump stops, listen really close to the inside of the tank......do you hear anything, like some gas still sprinkling out inside the tank? hopefully, you are at about a half tank or less. You wont hear it with a full tank. need to know where this hissing is from, under or in the tank. you arent going crazy.........yet. :o) I'll keep an eye out for your response.
